An hour ago, I was on the internet. No problems. I got off for a few minutes and tried to get back on. Now, Internet Explorer isn't working. It starts to load and bring up the site, and then it shuts down after about 3 seconds. I am now on my laptop. I have a router and am connected through Roadrunner.

I deleted cookies and files (temporary and other). I cleaned out all of my excess emails. IE just won't stay open on my main PC. I am currently running a virus scan on that PC, but I have no idea what to do if it finds nothing. I've shut down and restarted the PC multiple times. If it were a problem with Roadrunner, I wouldn't be able to connect through this laptop.

Any suggestions welcome!

Where's Dan when you need him, eh?

Sorry, I'm clueless but I'm giving this a bump in case someone else can help.

Same thing happened to me! What I did was go into Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced, and under Browsing unchecked Enable third-party browser extentions (requires restart)

I found the instructions by doing a search (I was able to open Netscape).

I also did a virus scan, adware, spyware. The above is what worked for me.

I had the same thing happen last night. My laptop for work was fine in the same router. I rebooted and the same thing.

I rebooted this morning then it was fine. :confused3 .

Anyone know what it might be?

That just happen to me this morning. I am at work and the computer was running really slow not opening pages getting the error that is it needs to shut down. I clean out the cookie temportary file history and it was still running slow. I restarted and still running slow. So I did some work and then came back on and now it is fine. Good thing cause I would have to work all day. :rotfl:

I had trouble with Explorer back in the summer. I finally switched over to Moxilla Firefox and it's been so much faster! :thumbsup2

What version of IE are you running? When you say it shuts down, do you mean freezes or closes (with error message)? Is it better today?

If not, try running Windows Update (through your browser or through your computer's control panel) - perhaps your browser is corrupted.
System restore may be an option as well - pick a date prior to yesterday.

Load an alternate browser on your computer so if you have trouble with one browser, you have an option in the other for updates/downloads.

Good luck!

It's working again. I shut down a dozen times last night and it wouldn't work. I start it up today and it is fine. Crazy!

Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. I'll just add this to my list of unexplained life's mysteries! :confused3
