Need help with work bench

I am thinking of getting DS a work bench for CHristmas. He loves the Handy Manny one, but I think I want a more generic one. I have looked at the Craftsman, Home Depot, etc, and they look flimsy, and cheap.

Does anyone have one they can reccommend?

Look up toddler wooden work bench - you will get a bunch of hits for wooden work benches of various sizes that actually get put together with the oversize wood bolts that come with them. I know Alex Toys makes one, as do a lot of other more crunchy/natural toy companies.

I'm pretty sure I saw the Alex one in TJ Maxx within the last few weeks.

I don't know if they still make it but my mother in law bought my oldest his own work bench. It is wood. probably stands 4 ft tall, 3 1/2 ft wide, probably 18 inches deep and has a peg board on the back. It came with slots for the tools. I want to say it was one of the home depot brand toys. I looked at Toys R Us online and everything they have is plastic looking. What about making your own?

I can take a pic and post if you are interested. Seems pretty easy and straight-forward. Just made out of 2x4's, except for the pegboard.

I picked up a wooden one last year at Target. It is very study and has held up to my kids. I don't know if they are carrying one this year, haven't looked at the boys toys yet!

how old is your DS? That can change the recommendations.

I struggled with buying one this year, I wanted a generic one that DS would get a few more years out of, but he really wants the Handy Manny one. I finally asked him why and he said "so I can build a birdhouse with it" so I broke down and bought it. He'll probably grow out of it in a year, let's hope Handy Manny still has some resale value then .
