My cousin is getting married in early June.

My "wedding" dress, is navy blue, a very classical style, short sleeved, has a small navy satin-y "cumberbund" thing that goes around the front and in a classy bow in the back.

This is a Talbot's dress, if you are familiar with the brand.

I generally wear this dress with a simple strand of pearls.

My cousin's wedding is going to be at 1:00, and the reception is going to be a dinner in the church hall following the wedding, my aunt expects the whole reception to be completed by 4:00 at the latest.

I'm thinking my dress will be a little to "evening-wear" like.

Assuming you are a female - mid-40's - what would you wear to this wedding?

Thanks!

I think I would try to find something a little "lighter". Navy is great for an evening wedding &/or reception, but I think something in a lighter shade would be nice. Chadwicks has some nice stuff in their catalog. I bought a tourquois wrap dress for a wedding last year and it was perfect!!

(also, i'm a photographer and have been to a MILLION weddings...or so it seems)

The dress might technically be a little dressy for the time of day, but I don't think you will feel overdressed unless this dress is long (you didn't mention the length and I'm assuming it's somewhere around knee length).

The dress sounds fine. You can dress it down by NOT wearing the pearls but maybe something on a simple chain.

i agree - as long as it is not too long, i think it will be ok.

my wedding dress is navy too. :)

I wouldn't be comfortable in that for an afternoond wedding in June. For an evening wedding, yes. But for afternoon I would much prefer something springy. But, if that's all you have and you don't want to get anything else then you could wear it.

I'm not sure I want to get something else. I have nothing else in my closet that would work. I just don't wear dresses anymore - not to anything but weddings - well and the class reunion I have purchased the dress for. ;) The dress is longer than knee length, and I kind of thought it just would be a little more fancy than an afternoon wedding would need.

That aside - It probably wouldn't hurt to get something slighlty more appropriate for this wedding. As long as I get something I can wear it other places - I won't mind spending a little $$$$. Just not a lot, because I am cheap! (Navy dress was a deal at a consignment shop!)

I will be able to get all "dolled-up" in my navy dress for a different much more formal wedding later in the summer.

Thanks!!!

If you want something new "on the cheap", maybe you could try Ebay. Since you know what size you fit into in Talbots wear, you could just search for "Talbots size ---" and see what you come up with. There is usually a good selection of Talbots clothing listed. Good luck! :)

I looked on there today - just didn't see the "perfect" thing. Oddly enough once it gets closer to the date I actually need the dress, the exact same things will look sooo much better. There was a really cute dress, 14.99 on a buy it now - in darn near every size except the one I would need. Go Figure.

I'll try the same consignment shop that I got the other Talbot's dress from.

I would wear something more summery if it were me. If it is going to be a 1-4 wedding, a nice pantsuit would work as well. Do you know if everything is going to be air conditioned? That would make a BIG difference to me.
