Need Help with "the plan"

We are new DVCers and our extended family is not up speed on the need to plan 11 months out so I'm floating a couple options and wondering if you could help me decide what to do.

Background: I have 225 point available between banked and 2010 points. I would like to go to WDW for a few nights between xmas and New Years. I have three different scenarios in mind for who might go with me on this trip

Scenario 1 - Just my family of 4 - we would be happy in a studio or 1BR
Scenario 2 - My family of 4, MIL, FIL and a neice and nephew - would need 2BR
Scenario 3 - #2's group plus sister and brother in law and additonal nephew - would need GV

We own at BLT and at this point I have a 3 night as of now for a 2BR at BLT (yea), this reduces my 225 to 33 available.

I"m starting to get the sense (though noone is ready to tell me for sure) that the most likely scenario will be #1. If that is the case I would like to go for 6 nights if possible.

Question is, should I use my 11 month window and ALSO reserve a studio for 6 nights knowing that eventually I will cancel either the 3 night 2BR or the 6 night Studio? On top of that, I would be making the studio reservation, which would make it necessary to technically borrow 2011 points, BUT I'm assuming (I hope correctly) that if I were to cancel the 2BR in the appropriate time frame (of course I would) that the studio would come out of current points and not the borrowed ones....does that make sense?

I'm worried that if I wait much longer I won't be able to get even a Studio at BLT, and I'm reading that week is really hard for reservations, so I was thinking I should cover myself at BLT before we get to the 7 month mark??

Thoughts?? Advice??

Thanks!

If you borrow points to book your 6 night studio stay, and then it turns out that you have to cancel the 2 bedroom, you are right that the points can be switched in such a way that the borrowed points can be used for the 6 night stay and the current use year points could then be banked, provided you're within the banking period for the points. Also, if you have to cancel the studio because you are using the 2 bedroom, the points could be switched so you can bank the current points.

You are right in wanting to make these plans ASAP because well, things could already be booked and you may be going on a waitlist.

Good luck!

Just make sure that you won't end up with more banked and borrowed points then you will need as these will have to be used, no matter what.

For example, if I am calculating correctly, a LV studio for 6 nights at that time is about 163 points. If you currently have 33 points, you are looking to borrow about 130 points.

If you then cancel the 2 bedroom, how many banked points will you still have? If it is more than the 33 being used in the studio, you will end up with extra.

You don't mention how many of the points being used for the 2 bedroom are banked so it is a little hard to know for sure.

Thanks all...

Before making the 2BR ressie I had 225 available (25 banked from 2009 and 200 from 2010), so after the 192 points for the 2BR I have 33 available from 2010 year.

If I make a LV 6 night BLT reservation, it would use 150 points, so that would be the 33 from 2010 and borrow 117 from 2011.

If, in plenty of time i cancel the 2BR, I'm just hoping to confirm that I would be able to use the 2009 and 2010 points for the 6night studio, and then I would still have some 2010 to bank and go back to having all 2011's available....

Does it work like that?

Once you borrow those 2011 points, they will stay in your 2010 UY.

But, if you book a studio with 150 points (117 borrowed and 33 current UY) and then cancel the 2 bedroom, your account would then have 25 banked, and 167 current UY points left.

You would then want them to use the 25 2009 banked points, 117 of the 2011 borrowed points, and 8 current UY points to cover the BLT studio. You would basically be asking them to re-allocate the 25 banked points for the 25 current UY points.

That would leave you will all but 8 of your 2010 points left to bank in to 2011. As long as you do this before your banking deadline of September, you would be all set!

Hope this helps!

ok, maybe not....one more question...

if i borrow 2011 points then they are always considered 2010 points, then i can bank them if they aren't used by sept 30th (remember feb use year),

that means that in any case I have to use all of those points by 1/31/2012 right before I get my 2012 .....so I just need to be comfy that i can use them by then, is that correct?

Borrowed points become current UY points. They cannot go back. So borrowed 2011 points become 2010 points and expire on Jan 31, 2011. They cannot be banked.
