I am going cross-eyed but I can not find the Kilimanjaro Club on the resort map. Also, are the Concierge rooms the light blue ones on the map? If not where are they?

Yes, I have been bitten by the Concierge big ;) thanks to you guy's :D I gotta blame someone...lol

I am making an assumption that the Kilimanjaro Club is the concierge lounge. Based on that assumption, the club is directly above the entrance to AKL on the 6th floor. You look over the railing at the lobby below.

sorry about that yes, I am trying to locate the conceirge club. I am going to add a link to the map I am looking at maybe that will help???

AKL resort map with rooms

ok, so I know the lounge has to be close to the lobby right?? is it not on the map??

thanks :)

The Kilamanjaro Club is located on the map where it says rooms 5101-5106, but on the sixth floor. The elevator to the right is the elevator you would take to access the lounge. This is the only elevator to go to the sixth floor. There is also a gated access on the fifth floor on the other side of the lounge with a stair way going into the lounge area. Hope this helps! Have some African crisps and some amarula for me while you are there!

Debbie

Kajunswty -
All the rooms on the 6th floor are concierge. Some on the 5th are too. I believe these are mostly savannah view.

AKL experts -
I have a question about views from the 5th floor. When putting in room request for our upcoming trip, I asked the concierge staff for 5th floor close to the elevator. I explained I have a bad knee due to recent surgery. Alana sd they would put us close to the lobby. By looking at at the map, If we are close to the lobby are we giving up closeness to the animals? Do you have to look out over the rock? Are the views better further out the building?

You will still be able to see the animals...granted yes, if you were more out on the wings you would have a better view of the savannah...you will see mainly Arusha rock...but animals wander over to that area as well. and being high up you'll still have a great view.

trust me - you can't stay at AKL and NOT see animals!

and if your knee is in rough shape...you'll want to be closer to the elevators...AKL can be a HIKE if you are off in the wings.

enjoy it!

ok, thanks for helping the map wasn't much help. :)

One last question, I have been digging around old threads trying to figure out what I want to request. I am confused with what I have found.

I thought "all" the rooms were non-smoking. I read that the all Concierge or Deluxe Pool view rooms were smoking. Can that be right? Please tell me it isn't so :(

My DH is trying to convince me to a pool view so we can "see" the girls if they want to go to the pool without us. From the pictures I've seen it looks pretty far ~ so far that I don't know if I will be able to keep track of the girls. Any opinions?

All savannah facing rooms are non-smoking. (I've stayed in concierge twice and never had a smoking room - always a savannah facing view) The smoking rooms are at the end of the wings - aka, a HIKE from the lobby/elevators. (Possibly pool facing rooms as well - I'm really not 100% sure.) Reason being is that they don't want people smoking on their balcony and accidently flicking a cigarette butt into the savannah where the animals are. I know some people will disagree and say that there were allowed to smoke on their balconys...but after speaking to some of the animal keepers who watch the video cameras...they'll tell you that they will come up to your room and ask you to smoke elsewhere (either by the pool or out front near the lobby - the only other smoking places on property)

you can 'see' the pool just fine from the balcony - however there is a lot of vegetation and the view isn't exactly clear/direct. If somethere were to happen - you'd be pretty far away. (meaning - you're too far away to yell at them. heheh)

Is that true, that you can't smoke on the savannah facing balconies at AKL or in savannah view rooms? I wish I had known that on our last trip. We were on the Sunset Savannah, 5th floor, and someone in a room around us, either to the right or below us, was constantly smoking on their balcony, which totally ruined our ability to sit outside. Not only do I have asthma so smoke is not great for me to be around, but I was 20 weeks pregnant and I really didn't want to be near smoke since I'd like to keep my baby's lungs clean at least until she's born. I just thought that people could smoke out there so I didn't do anything about it, next time I'll be sure to call the front desk though. Thanks for the info!

justhat...

i'm sorry that ruined your trip...but I know that DH and I are smokers and we never smoked on our savannah facing balcony.

I think the CM i was talking to said that even if you have a smoking room facing a savannah - you can't smoke on your balcony...you HAVE to smoke in your room. (yeah - that's what he said...I think I misquoted him earlier)

i know i read somewhere here that a housekeeper gave someone DH's an ashtray to use on his balcony...in a savannah facing room. but think if you leave that ashtray outside and a gust of wind blows a butt out into the savannah. heck - you're not even supposed to hang your beach towels over your balcony (as most people do)...the CM told me he's called the resort while riding in his truck in the savannah and told them to go to room such and such to tell them to remove their towels.

the animals and their safety are a HUGE priority at the lodge...i just wish more people would respect that fact.

It's true that many people don't care about the animals' habitats. We've seen lots of people (grown people, not even ones with small kids) fighting with CMs about having their balloons taken away when they return to the resort--even after the bus driver made an announcement about it on the way back to the lodge. I mean, the CMs aren't trying to ruin your vacation, they just want to keep the savannahs safe for the animals. Thanks again Stinkerbelle--I'll be sure to pass that info along to my aunt and uncle who will be staying at AKL for 2 nights during our extended family trip in May. They both smoke but would definitely not want to endanger the animals, especially since they love animals and live on a farm!

oh you are very welcome! always glad to help. DH and I totally fell in love with AKL...so we've learned ALOT about the lodge during our last 2 trips there.

and yes - we've asked CM's...people do actually try to get in the savannahs! we were talking to a CM in concierge one night asking his opinion on what we should do on our last night - and he joking said "get into the savannah and see who catches you first - the security guards or the zebra." hehehe...(he was JOKING! let me just restate that.) so we got on the subject of people getting in there...yes, there is always one idiot out there!

if your aunt and uncle don't get a smoking room...there are ashtrays all around the pool area and an ashtray outside near valet parking. DH and I like consider ourselves 'considerate smokers' so we try to go where there is the least amount of people traffic...so tucked away at the pool area was best for us!

I love AKL too-unfortunately my fiancé isn't as thrilled with it, but we are splitting our honeymoon between there and the GF because I like it so much. It's really the only resort where I enjoy sitting in the room since you can just watch animals all day. Our first stay there we'd come back for an afternoon nap and I'd end up sitting out on the balcony till it was time to shower and change for dinner!

I've seen the ashtrays by the parking area/entrance to the resort, but unfortunately we haven't used the pool there yet so I haven't seen those smoking areas, but I'll let them know. They too are very considerate of others with their smoking (well, my uncle claims to have quit and blames his smokey smell on his wife, but we're all in doubt about that one). Partially they became sensitive to others smelling smoke because of me, but now that they have a 2 month old granddaughter who lives with them, they've really become aware of it. And she'll be with us in May too so I know they'll want places where they can smoke without being around the baby.

well - congrats on your upcoming wedding and baby! DH and I LOVED our HM at WDW...make sure you wear your ears!! :)
