Need help with resort choice

I am trying to plan my trip for 2018. We are going in September so this trip will be a little shorter than our normal trips. Usually we stay 10 days with 7 park days and a couple of swim days. So next year we are staying 7 nights with 7 park days and no swim days. We have to cut this trip a little shorter because of the kids being in school. We have always stayed at a deluxe resort with the exception of AOA. We have stayed there a couple of nights here and there in the standard room and a suite. This will be our 6th year in a row going. My debate is whether to try a moderate or a value for next year because the only time that we will be in the room is to shower and sleep. We have always went to the parks at rope drop and stay until close with no breaks. We just got back last month and spent 17 hours in Animal Kingdom with no breaks!! Lol .
With that being said I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a deluxe resort when I will not get to enjoy the resort at all. We just need a place to shower and sleep. My only problem is that I will admit that I am totally a "hotel snob"!! So I need help choosing a reasonable hotel that I would be happy at! I have never stayed at the moderates but was looking at Coronado?
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks :stitch:

Coronado is undergoing construction now...and I'm not sure how it will be in September 2018. I would choose one of the PORs over Coronado until construction is complete--just my preference.

September should be during food and wine festival at Epcot--is that something your family is interested in? Even though it isn't a true Disney resort, maybe look at Swan and Dolphin?

This sounds a little complex. You're a hotel snob, but yet, only need a shower and sleep place to stay. I don't think any answers given are going to be ultimately useful. I'm not sure when the resort construction will be over, but make sure to look into those things as well.

I guess what I mean by that is I have been spoiled by what the deluxe resorts have to offer and I'm wondering if I would be happy with a moderate resort. I have never been to any of them so I really don't know what to expect! If we were going to have some down days where we got to swim and enjoy the resort I would definitely pay for a deluxe but since we aren't going to have time to do any of that, I was going to try to look at some of other options!

Yes we will be doing the Food and Wine but for only 1 day. We are also doing the Halloween party again. We have done it before and enjoyed it! Are the prices for Swan and Dolphin comparable to a moderate?

What about POR or POFQ? They aren't as spread out as CB and they have boat access to Disney Springs ? Pop Century would be done with its refurbishment by then and it has its own bus system.

I was wondering if Pop would be done updating all their rooms before then? We have never stayed there before but it looks like the newly remodeled rooms are nice! Having their own bus is definitely a plus for me since we are going to the parks for 7 days!

If you are just in the room to sleep and not going to swim or anything, I would stay in the cheapest hotel room onsite. Why spend extra money for nothing?

What would be your choice for a value? I was kinda looking at Pop since it looks like the remodeling will be completed? I have never been over to Pop, do you know which section would be a good one to request? I want something close to the bus stop!

I jua stayed there in a renovated room and they are nice. Lots of shelf and cupboard space in the bathroom, and a sliding door between bath and bed area. But...

There is a queen bed with a queen Murphy bed. Both are exceedingly comfortable, but you lose the table and quite a bit of moving-around space when the second bed is down. We were just two adults, so it wasn't a problem. Not sure how old/big your kids are, and how much they like to run around--something to consider.

I have never stayed at Pop. However doing a quick search, there are preferred rooms which are closer to the lobby building that cost a little more. You can probably look in the thread for Pop for building numbers

I'd either do pop or port orleans riverside princess rooms. Those rooms at POR are by far my favorite place I stayed on property and that's over deluxes

Pop has become the home resort for my family over the last year and a half. We are like you in that we only really need a place to sleep and shower, so we are happy saving some money by staying value. When we stay, we always request the 50s section (with our favorites being buildings 1 or 3). From that section, you can cut through the main building and end up right at the bus stop (with a convenient stop at the food court with your refillable mugs along the way). It also has its own pool so you don't have to walk too far to swim and it's definitely a quieter pool than the main one in the center of the resort.

As a whole, we love the resort because it is a nice size with its own bus system - no sharing is wonderful! It's a really quick trip back from HS (great for after Fantasmic) and pretty quick from DAK as well. The food court has a lot of options for everyone, the theming is tons of fun, and once those room renovations are done the rooms are going to be even better than they already are! I'd DEFINITELY suggest giving it a try for your next trip! :)

I've stayed several times at CSR and really love it, however we stayed 4 nights at Pop in May and it is our new favorite for a cheaper option. The food court is really good and the resort isn't too spread out. We only used the bus a couple of times and it was fine. The 60s section is great, we really like the Hippy Dippy pool and it's a very quick walk to the food court and bus stop.

We had a renovated room for one night in June - I LOVE those rooms!

Rent a reservation for a Poly DVC studio. A week in Sept. (7 nights) in a std. view studio would run about $2000 if you go through one of the rental agencies, possibly less if you deal directly with a DVC owner. Split bathroom, sleeps 5, small kitchenette, easy access to Epcot monorail and the MK resort monorail. You would still get your Deluxe Resort but at Moderate Resort prices. Rack rates at CSR are $230-$270 per night for std. view in Sept. 2018.

I think the allstars are usually the cheapest. haven't stayed there in years, but we stayed one time and were dead in the back of the place. Even then the walk isn't that bad. We stayed at AOA a few years back in the cars suite, kids loved that and its pretty close to the buses, but it does start to get pricey.

I think at any of the values you could probably request close to the bus.

All Star Resort Tips:

1) Rooms feature double beds.
2) Non-preferred rooms can be a hike for some.
3) Morning breakfast in the food court can be chaotic.
4) No coffee pots/microwaves in rooms. There is a fridge.
5) Rooms may be considered small to those who are accustomed to moderate/deluxe style rooms. Consider packing organizers for the room to place belongings in. There is plenty of space in the sink area and by the front door.
6) Room features 1 small table with 2 chairs.
7) Pools will be crowded during the day. Pools do not have slides.
8) Do not feel shy about asking to have room features fixed. On one trip a light bulb was out, so we requested to have it fixed.
9) For less noise/traffic, request a room on the 3rd floor if possible and towards the back of the building (away from central walkway/pool area).
10) If you must budget but cannot afford prefer rooms, consider staying at All Star Sports, which has the closest non-preferred rooms to the main building.

If any of these tips sound "un-doable" for you and your family, a moderate might suit your needs.
