Hi Everyone,

I have not been to the boards in a long long time, and my how has it changed. My family and I are planning a trip to Disney. We want to stay or property, but don't know the first thing about renting DVC Villa. I figured it would be cheaper then paying for two rooms at the Coronado. Any help you all could give would be greatly appreciated. Also I am having a hard time understanding the DVC Point Chart, any help in the area would be much appreciated too.:thumbsup2

:) Pick the resort you are most interested in....find the point chart. You probably know when you will be traveling and already know that you need a 2 BR. The point charts are based on the amount of points needed for that accomodation. So a 2 BR may be 22 points a night or for the week 22x7. There is no difference when looking at the weekly rate, DVC was just nice and added it up for you. There is a RENT/ TRADE board here where you can find what you are looking for. You can also find suggestions for renting with contracts and such in some of the stickies. Dave's rental is also a sponsor and helps with reservations. You may pay a couple of dollars more per point but he takes care of the leg work for you from what I understand. Spend a little bit of time in this section of forums and you will learn more of the ins and outs.

I am sure that you will find a member who will rent to you but you should know that many experienced members who rent look for DISers who have many posts. That is also one of the criteria that you should consider in a member.

I considered that that might keep someone from renting to me, but hopefully everything will work out.

Friday and Saturday nights points are roughly double the Sunday-Thursday points costs. The weekly rate will be correct if you are staying seven consecutive nights. But if your stay is anything other than 7 consecutive nights you'll have to price it night by night to get the correct number of points.

The best place for you to start is not here. The best place to start is the "stickies" at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade board. Read every word, including all of the links, at least once. Then come back here and ask questions on issues you don't understand.

Renting a DVC reservation is a complex undertaking and will require a LOT of research on your part...plus a good amount of trust between you and the owner you rent from.

If your plans have any likelihood of changing, renting is probably not for you because it is difficult to impossible to change plans with a rental.

Thanks Everyone for your help, it's time to research I have 4 months till my trip.

You need to be aware also that at 4 months out you may have limited choice of resorts since most members make reservations at 11 months for the smaller ones such as BCV and VWL.

yep - only 4 months is getting pretty last minute in timeshare terms...

So I guess I should just go with my original ideal of getting two rooms at the Coronado Springs. I guess I waited to late.:rotfl:

It is not that it is too late. You may be able to get the size room you need at OKW or SSR for the time you want to go. You just may not be able to get some place like Beach club villas, or Wilderness lodge. If you are flexible you may be okay. Check out how many points you will need and compare the cost at $10 a point vs what you would pay for 2 rooms at CSR to see if it is worth it for your family.
