Ok I'm a HHN newbie and I'm really hoping to go this year but I need help with the basics. Do you need the regular park admission on top of the HHN ticket? Where exactly does HHN take place and are rides still open during the event? I guess I'm just sort of clueless how the whole thing takes place and could really use some general tips of what to do! TIA!

HHN is a hard ticket event which means you need a separate event ticket to enter. You do not have to have theme park tickets if you are only going to HHN. HHN is staged at the Studios usually starting at 6:30pm. There are only a handful of rides open during HHN...last year there were four I believe.

no park ticket but a hhn ticket.......

stand in line at the front gate to enter the parks for hhn.

park opens at 6:30.
depending on the night you go, you might have to get in that line pretty early.
suggest 5:00 on friday/saturdays.

the more up front you are in the outside line, the quicker you will be enter the park when it opens at 6:30.

all go thru a metal detector and it is usually the person in front of you that makes the detector buzz................:lmao:

Oh wow that's awesome! I figured they were like Disney where you needed the park admission plus the event ticket. We plan on going Sep. 30th which looks like it's a slower day because I think the prices are less but it's the only day that they're running the HHN during our quick trip to Orlando.

You do not need park admission during the day... But - it will help with crowds.

If you are in the park when it closes (at 5), you will be released before the general gates are open (released between 6 - 6:30).. this will allow you to hit a few houses with little to no wait, and is a huge advantage.

If you wanted to do this, and hit some rides that are only open during the day.. you can buy an add-on ticket. For around 15-20 (I forgot the exact number), you can enter the park at 2, and ride some rides, then head to the holding area at 5... If you want to ride some rides/shows only open during the day (including ET, Shrek, Terminator, disaster, maybe despicable me [we won't know for sure what rides are open during the night for a little while]) and/or get into the event early, I would get the add on ticket.

The main difference between Disney and Universal is...Disney does not clear the park before MNSSHP begins like Universal does. The Studios is closed...swept of day guests...then reopened for HHN. Some people also think they can go to HHN if they are in the park for the day...not so.

Also, the scareactors will NOT touch you. They are allowed to get in your face and space, but that's about it. Likewise, you should not touch them.

Photographing scareactors in the streets is permissible, and is Strictly Forbidden in haunted houses. If you take pictures inside a haunted house, you'll be pulled to the side by security and may be asked to delete all the pictures. The no flash pictures requirement inside houses is for the safety of the scareactors, other guests, and safety TMs stationed in the house.

Food and drink are permissible in haunted house queues--there are often little bars selling bottled beer, soda, and water in the queues themselves--but must be finished before entering the haunted house. You will be pulled aside and given a chance to finish if you haven't already.

Open containers, including souvenir cups must be empty, turned off (if they're the flashy type) and stored in a pocket or purse before entering a haunted house. All flashy stuff must be turned off before entering a haunted house.

Alcohol is sold EVERYWHERE. Most places that sell alcohol will also have non-alcoholic options available. Expect to see a lot of drunk people. Don't worry, there is also a lot of security available, and OPD is always on-site.

Skip the first Bill & Ted show of the night. This gives you more time to see haunted houses with lower waits.

Most of the restaurants and gift shops will remain open. These are also "safe zones" if you need to avoid scareactors.

Rip Ride Rockit will probably close its line earlier than the posted park closing time (11-1130pm on a midnight close, midnight on a 1am close, 1am on a 2am close). So if you want to ride it at night, keep this in mind. As long as you are in the line for a ride/haunted house before they close the line, you will get to ride/walk through. Once a line is closed, that's it.

Express passes for HHN are available, and frequently sell out. If you get there early, tour opposite of the crowd flow, and skip the first Bill & Ted show, it is possible to see all the haunted houses by 1030pm without needing Express.

Only HHN Express is valid for HHN. Onsite-hotel room keys are not valid. Studio Express is not valid. VIP express is not valid. GKTW/Make-a-wish must see Guest Services for a HHN pass (if available).

Thanks everyone for such good information it's really helpful. I absolutely love having the bejesus scared out of me and I'm really hoping we can make this work out since I've been dreaming of going to HHN for years and this is the first time that we'll be in Orlando when it's going on!

so its mostly going thru haunted houses? thanks
Yes...and the scarezones. HHN is all about the houses and zones...rides can be ridden during the day.

I'm sure you'll have a blast and you never forget your first HHN. Mine was in 2004 and I've been going every year since.
