alright everybody, as some of you know and most of you do not, I am in graduate school at Providence College to my Masters of Art in American History and my Secondary Education Social Studies Certification.
I need to make a lesson plan for a 60 minute class period for american history. I know most students HATE history so I figured I would come to the students, the teens, and ask these questions:

1) If you could study ANY topic in American History for only 60 minutes what would it be?

2) How would you like to learn about this topic? (Movies are not an option however lectures, activies, handouts, etc. are allowed)

Thanks for the help guys!! This lesson planning stuff is HARD!

OKay what about the Civil War? You can't teach the entire war in 60 minutes. I mean I am taking an entire graduate school semester on the Civil War and we can't even cover everything.
And what kind of interactive activities?
I need details since i have to explain how my lesson plan will help with motor skills and emotions and social skills and knowledge.

My parents are alumni of PC. I live in Warwick. How random is that that I actually meet someone on DIS in the same state lol.

1. I'd love to learn more about WWII. I love learning about that stuff. I wish I would have studied more about it in History last year. To get more into WWII maybe how America got put into it because they initially didn't want to be apart of it.

2. Learning about WWII I would like lecture/notes. my history teacher last year did really good notes.

1) If you could study ANY topic in American History for only 60 minutes what would it be? I'd love to study a couple minor battles, in depth, of the Revolutionary War.

2) How would you like to learn about this topic? (Movies are not an option however lectures, activies, handouts, etc. are allowed) I'm a visual, and hands-on learner. I prefer images, PowerPoints, and activities as opposed to speeches and lectures.

I would want to learn about WWII. I like to learn through interesting things like powerpoints or interactive activities.

1. One of the major documents ie. the constitution, declaration of independence, etc.
2. some sort of group work that might include "find this part in the document that states why " " is possible"

I'd be interested in learning about the Watergate scandal really. I find that pretty interesting, and it's not really a topic you learn about in school.

Hmm...I wouldn't really know how to teach it though. Handouts would be boring. (IMO) If you could think of a creative way of teaching that it would be an interesting topic to learn about.

I've always liked studying WWII. I like to make comparisions to the way things were then and what happened in Europe to what is happening now in the US and in the middle east. since I like learning about it, it doesn't really matter how the information is portrayed to me, I'll take it in anyway because I like the subject and will pay attention. but debates are always fun.

Either WWII or the Vietnam war.

A lecture is the best. Especially if you would make it interesting. Good luck!!

I am thinking of doing a combination of lecture, handouts, and a debate.

Don't know which topic i am going to do though.

Shelby suggested the Salem Witch Trials so I may do that and like have the kids act out one of the courtroom scenes.

That would be an awesome topic to do. I personally love the Salem Witch Trials (I find it really fascinating). And the courtroom scene is a perfect idea. Definetly get the students involved somehow. :)

Like maybe just choose on of the battles and have a re-enactment of it and have the re-enactment filmed. Have the students be certain Generals in the battle and build stratiegies that were used. Even have them possibly draw what they would think there person period outfit would be like.

Or you could reenact the Brown vs Board of Education. We did that, and it was super fun!
