We are planning our first trip with both DSs ( ages 6 and 2) for July 10-15. This will be our first trip in July. I am really getting concerned about the heat. I know that it will be crowded, but I think we can handle that part.

What are your suggestions for beating the heat? :confused3

Thanks

Yes tips and suggestions welcomed. I'll be there at the same time :cool1:

Is it gong to be very crowded??

Thnx!!

It's really not that bad. DH and I made our first trip (together) to WDW in July of 2003 and although it was hot, I don't remember it being that big a deal. (Of course we also live in KY where it's super humid all summer). It seemed like we were constantly going in somewhere air-conditioned. We drank lots of water and when we did get too hot we went back to the resort to swim.

The crowds were completely managable. I think our longest wait was 30 minutes for the Jungle Cruise but we did use FP for some things. A lot of things were almost walk on - I remember POTC, IASW, and most things at Epcot. Things may be different this summer because of the Happiest Celebration but I hope not. We have a trip planned July 14-24 - see you there!

People who ain’t from around here always seem to wonder how we survive in the heat as though it requires super human strength or supernatural intervention… Well, it’s really quite simple. WE AVOID IT WHENEVER POSSIBLE!!!! :cool1: :sunny:

Rule # 1) If you don’t have to be out in it, don’t…

Rule # 2) If you are out in it, and you have the option of standing in the direct sunlight or in shade, choose the shade…

Rule # 3) If there is no shade, wear a hat, preferably one with a wide brim (like a bucket hat or cowboy-type hat) so your head doesn’t get burned as easily… pirate: :umbrella:

Rule # 4) If you have to be out, drink lots of water or water-based substances – alcohol only makes dehydration worse, as does caffeine in large quantities, so put down the beer and the coke and drink water or gatoraide or something similar… water is always best…

Rule # 5) If you have the opportunity to be in an air-conditioned environment, do it…

Rule # 6) Sunscreen is your friend… you will burn in less than 20 minutes most days during the high summer in Florida, especially if you aren’t used to the heat, but even natives can burn quickly and even if you aren’t burning, you’re still absorbing carcinogins…

Those little hand held fans or fan-misters are great – my DW and I found some at Wal-Mart that were less than $2 each and they fan blades are foam so they won’t cut you (though they can get tangled in long hair) so they are safe for kids. Just carry one of those for each person in the party (with belt clips they are easy to keep with you) and if you are stuck somewhere warm, just use it to cool off a bit until you can get to more shade and/or air-conditioning.

But the heat isn't normally the problem for out-of-towners, it's the humidity, which can take a day that is 92 degrees and make it feel like it is 115 degrees and makes the air heavy and sticky. You will sweat a lot, so plan for extra clothes and wear things that breathe

And if you wear sandals don't forget the sunscreen on your feet - they will burn very quickly if you don't often walk around in sandals in Florida or other warm climates... then you'll be flat on your back complaining about your burned feet... :rotfl2: (That was just an effort to throw in another smiley from the choices, haha)

We went in July 2000. It was hot, and I am from the south! But it is part of the fun of it all!

My best tip is to get those water bottles holders that hang on you and refill them at water fountains. The water isn't always cold but it doesn't really matter. Drink, do take swim breaks, use sprayer things where they have them. Try to wear sandals so you can get wet and not worry about walking in wet tennis shoes. I was pouring water over my head at some point. I remember parades being the worst, satnding still in a crowd it gets real hot. We ate lots of Mickey bars that trip!

Crowds are what you would expect. We got lots of Brazilian school trips. Kids are nice, they sing and such at lines, my kids enjoyed them, but they can fill up a line fast!
