DS is comparing homemade cleaning products with store bought cleaning products to determine which works better. Here's my problem...the store bought part is easy...I can just use the stuff we have:p
The homemade part is more challenging. Does anyone have any good homemade products recipes? He wants to do a general cleaner type thing like to clean the bath tiles with, a laundry product, and a dish washing product. We have been doing searches and found several recipes but I'm not familiar with all the ingredients in them. Thanks!!:)

I'm no help but I can bump this back to page one for you :)

Would anyone on the budget board be able to help you? They seem to have great suggestions for just about anything, and I would bet that making your own cleaning solutions would save money. Also - did you try to do an internet search for cleaning and vinegar? Or what about baking soda - seems like there is always info on the box.

Someone told me how to remove ink spots from leather (but not suede) by applying a heavy coat of nonoily cuticle remover (NOT nail polish remover) on the spot. Let it sit for hours or even days until the ink has disappeared. (Would something like that help?)

Another 'tip' that I heard a while back too was if you need to clean stained aluminum pots ~ fill the pots with water & add apple peels. Bring the water to a boil & then simmer until the discoloration disappears.

I know it's not 'exactly' a cleaning product but it's a great tip with just using household stuff.

I wash my ceramic tiled floors with 1 part vinegar to 3 parts HOT water. My floor comes out looking just beautiful ~ no streaks & no slipping!

Don't you just love those science projects???? My DS is working on one too and it's comparing ziploc style bags by putting moistened bread in each and see which stays fresh the longest.

Hmmm, let me think about this...........I can't think of any "homemade" cleaners. I've used a mixture of bleach & dishwasher detergent for whites but I don't consider that homemade.

Ok, so I'm absolutely no help!!!

Sorry!

Hey this one will help me !!! Maybe not him so much. My wonderful(not),loving(not exactly), 10 year old nephew decided to write two words on the back of my leather car seats....and they were not "Love You"!! He didn't write them small or just once either :earseek: :earseek: My BIL wanted to use the nail polish remover to clean it off but I said no because I didn't want my leather ruined. The neighbor used the best interior detailing cleaner she had but it is still there.
Oh...he is NOT allowed to ride in my backseat anymore. My BIL actually asked why I had a pen in the car:rolleyes: I told him his son is way old enough to know NOT to write on car seats!!!

Ok back to the topic....thankyou for all your suggestions...I might ask over on the Budget board too. I figure out of 60,000 someone surely uses homemade stuff.:)

I can't really help with the homemade stuff (I'm the one who thinks swiffer dusters are the greatest invention of the 21st century!) but for the ink on the car seat, try Carbona, they have a formula just for ink. My son got printer ink (magenta!) all over his favorite shirt at a tour of our local newpaper printing plant! The Carbona took it right out.

Good luck with the project!

There is the basic vinegar/water for window cleaner. I think some recipes even call for baking soda.

For you...to remove ink from clothing use rubbing alcohol.

Hairspray to remove ink stains from clothing vs. something like Spray & Wash??

I use a combo I got from the "Tightwad Gazette" on laundry stains. It is (if I recall) two parts Cascade (or similar) and one part all-fabric bleach (like Clorox 2). Put them in a bucket of hot, hot tap water and soak the items (usually I leave them overnight). I have tried this with hand-me-down baby clothes (you know all the yellow formula stains and diaper leak stains they usually have). It works really good on most stains. Just be sure that the fabric is colorfast. I have had trouble with colors running, so be sure to soak similar colors together.................P

Water and baking soda to a runny consistency helps get tar out from your car, also soda water will get stains out from carpet and couches. I have heard (never tried) that white wine gets out stains from red wine.

Thats all that I can think of now.
