Anyone else have any suggestions? Doesn't look like there's much around other than the mall?
No, Danbury is not a metropolitan area. (I mean, technically it is, I guess, but it's not exactly a tourist town!) The mall is GREAT, though. Large food court, recently rennovated. The sit-down restaurants there are Ruby Tuesday's and Uno's. Right next to the mall is a plaza with a Christmas Tree Shop (which many people enjoy browsing in), a FABULOUS pizza place (Sinapi's!), and a nice Toys R Us and (tiny) Barnes and Noble. Across the way is a Chuck E Cheese, Coldstone Creamery, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden.
Again, though, you aren't going to find anything in the area that you couldn't find in any other American town. There's no real "must see's."
The mall started as a fairgrounds (hence the name-- Danbury Fair Mall) and has a carnival for three weeks every summer. Permanently in the food court is the original carousel from the fair-- from the 1950's, I believe.
Brewster isn't any more exciting than Danbury, really. However, it does have FABULOUS restaurants. There's 121 (technically in North Salem, 5 minutes from Danbury, 5 from Brewster), a favorite of local David Letterman and Tom Collichio from Top Chef. Aversano's on rt22 is also terrific. Tilly Foster Farm in Carmel (5 mins away from Brewster) is a fun day outing-- it's a conservation for rare farm animals. It's spring, so there's plenty of baby animals (the Jacob Sheep lambs would steal your heart)! I think you can sign kiddies up for tractor rides, and there's a cute general store to browse in. Some great antique cars to look at, as well.
Clearly, I am from the area! PM me if you want directions to anywhere or any other suggestions!
