Need Help with a Pentax M 1.7/50mm

Hey everyone. I literally was just given a camera by a friend who said it's a pretty good camera (but it looks kinda vintage in my book). It's a Pentax-M 1.7/50 mm? It came with a few lenses that snap on. I was hoping to take it on my trip to try it out. I leave in 4 days. I'll have my digital camera too but thought it would be fun to this camera also since it uses real film. Anyway, my question is can I just point and click this thing after adjusting the focus or do I need to know some ins and outs? I just don't want to waste a lot of film. Any help or info someone can provide would be beneficial!

I did figure out how to manually focus it But that's about it...


And I guess I'm an idiot... I thought the model of the camera was on the lens. But I believe that was the lens model. I have no idea what the camera is! But it's got this lens on it...

Can you post a picture of it? The M lenses were used on a number of different Pentax bodies...

Have you tried searching the web for a manual? They can be found online...

The M designation means that you have to set the aperture. The shutter is up to the camera body.

Vintage can still be good. Pentax made some very solid SLRs in the day...I still have a 1977 Pentax ME Super bought new, that will still fire off some film anytime - since going digital I don't use my film SLRs like I used to, but did even shoot as recently as 2008 with it. The lenses now get used on my Sony NEX digital camera.

Give the model number of the camera if you can - usually a plate on the bottom of the body or inside the film door should tell you the name.

I will post a pic tonight... I couldnt' find a manual online. I googled it. but then again, I was googling the lens lol. I'm an idiot
