my neice is 11 wks pg and her ob told her the babys heartbeat is at 90 supposed to be 160 and her baby is dying. Has anyone had a h/b that low and went on to have a successful pg with a healthy baby?

I can't imagine any doctor in the world saying that unless he was SURE of what he was saying. I'm guessing that it's probably too late.

My sincere sympathies-- it's a brutal thing to go through.

I've been though my share of losses. 4 to be exact. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with that type of situation. I do know that by that point in the pregnancy, the heartbeat should be much faster.

It's such a heartbreaking thing to go through. I truly hope that things turn out for the best.

When I had miscarriages before and 1 ectopic they did blood work to see what my blood count was at . I was also pregnent with twins in my last preg and lost one and one survived ( Emma who is now 5 ) they kept doing ultrasounds to see how the babies were progressing. In 1 ultrasound you saw 2 babies a few days later you saw 2 sacks 1 with a baby one empty. I am suprised the doc didnt order an ultrasound. not sure what a babys heart rate is suppose to be at but with Emma they couldnt even detect a heartbeat at one point so they sent me for an emergency ultrasound. I was bleeding and thats one of the first signs of miscarriages. Did they put her on bed rest or anything. It is such a terrible thing to loose a precious one. I hope everything works out for the best I am sure you all are devestated. My prayers are with you and yours.

Is she sure she is 11 weeks along? Hoping for the best.

Heart rate tends to vary with gestational age in the very early parts of pregnancy. Normal heart rate at 6 weeks is around 90-110 beats per minute (bpm) and at 9 weeks is 140-170 bpm. At 5-8 weeks a bradycardia (less than 90 bpm) is associated with a high risk of miscarriage

Many women do not ovulate at around day 14, so findings after a single scan should always be interpreted with caution. The diagnosis of missed abortion is usually made by serial ultrasound scans demonstrating lack of gestational development. For example, if ultrasound scan demonstrates a 7mm embryo but cannot demonstrable a clearcut heartbeat, a missed abortion may be diagnosed. In such cases, it is reasonable to repeat the ultrasound scan in 7-10 days to avoid any error.

I am so sorry to hear this. My last miscarriage I was about 10 wks or so and during the ultrasound the heart rate was at 60 I asked the tech "isn't that low?" they said "a little and that was it" about 2 weeks later I miscarried.
I knew something was wrong it just didn't feel right.
I am sorry for what she is going through. I hope it works out. I would call the Dr. and ask for the blood test. Check the levels, she needs to do it for her piece of mind.

Praying for your dear niece! Being worried is such a scary thing during pregnancy. I had 6 miscarriages in my early 20's all between 6 & 12 weeks. The heart rate was always low and the baby was always growing too slowly or not at all. But that was verified w/ an ultrasound each time. Praying she and the baby will be alright! :grouphug:

I have been in that very same situation, although a week or two earlier. However, I was spotting, hence the check and the heartbeat was low. Unfortunately, there's just not much that can be done but to wait it out. I believe I found out about the heartbeat and about 2 days later the heartbeat was gone.

My hcg levels were low from the get-go, so things were touch and go from the start...hopefully her situation improves...

How did the OB determine the HB, was it through ultra-sound? Like a pp mentioned is it possible she is less along than she thought? Not all women ovulate on the 15th day.

If it was through ultra-sound and they are positive of the dating then prayers to your DNiece.

sorry, I thank you all for the prayers for my neice. She has an u/s done yesterday and that is where they came up with the h/b. We have to wait till friday for a repeat u/s.

My friend had a hb of 85 one week, they told her that she will probably have a m/c. The next week they went in, and the hb was over 170 and the baby was in a different position. They think the way it was laying was cutting off air supply. But the baby came out fine.
But like everyone else, theres always a possibility.
When I was carrying twins 8 weeks apart, (didnt know it) we went to the "gender" u/s and found out that our first baby died, but there was another one in there, but the HB was only 50 bpm. They said theres nothing they can do, keep up eating, take your prenatal, try not to stress.
I did all that, and i was even rubbing my belly, talking to it. Saying stuff like "come on baby, you can make it, we can do it."... but i ended up losing it anyway. :sad1: I had a d&c to get rid of two babies. Because I didnt miscarry either, they both just died. So i guess it all depends. Just tell her to keep up like shes still pregnant. Try not to cry, but prepare herself for the worst.
