Need help w/xmas present - plasma verses LCD

I'm not sure where to post this, but need help with hubby's xmas present. Wanted to get a 42 inch flat screen TV.... but wasn't sure what is the difference between plasma and LCD.

I did a little research, Panasonic verses Sony Plasma, and there is $400 difference. Is one better than the other, in your opinions.

Men and techies, please help w/advice and your personal opinion.

We've been very pleased with our 42" Panasonic Plasma. Be warned though, they are extremely heavy, make sure you have some strong fellas around to help hang it on your wall!

I purchased a Samsung 42" LCD HDTV about a month ago

I thought from sight alone the LCD was better than Plasma
