I am sure I've come up with a bladder infection. I won't bore you with symptoms but I've had them before. I had the answering service page my doctor (to call something in) but no call back yet 30 minutes later. No urgent care centers are open here on sundays (can you believe that?). I have to be at church at 6PM for the kids' Christmas pageant where DD#2 is Mary and DS is a wise man, so I'm wary of going to the ER--I'm sure they don't care about my time crunch. Is there anything I can do to make this better? I am freaking miserable. I'm drinking tons of water but it's not really helping.

Drink cranberry juice.

I get them horribly sometimes to where I am peeing blood ( sorry if TMI)

:grouphug: hope you feel better soon!

There is some stuff you can buy in the store called azo or something like that , that is suppose to help, I have never tried it..cranberry juice and some antibiotics( when I need them, generally I stick with the cranberry juice and it goes away) always helps me

They Make a non prescription Pain med called AZO you can get it at most Pharmacies ( Rite Aid, Wallgreens, Ect...) you could also check Wal-Mart.
Good luck.

Uristat is an over the counter med for pain relief from UTI's. I have used it before and it worked well. Just make sure that you talk to the doctor as soon as possible.

Go to the store and buy Uristat. It doesn't completely take the pain away, but it will help.

I get about one a year and I HATE them with a passion. My last one was horrific and of course, happened in the middle of the night - on a Saturday. I was actually passing large clots (TMI - I know). The Uristat helped me to at least get a little bit of sleep.

Another vote for Uristat and drink cranberry juice or take cranberry capsules. Also sold at Walgreen's, Wal-Mart, etc.

Feel better!!

Thanks for the replies so far. I paged the doctor a second time and she just called back and is calling me in some cipro. I don't know if it will take the edge off before church but I'm just glad I'm getting something. It helps that the Dr. on call has a son on DS's soccer team! (she was at the game, which I missed because I'm miserable).

Cipro is an antibiotic. It will help in the long term but for short term relief get some Uristat and drink lots of water. I get 2-3 a year and I now always keep some Uristat around because they are miserable an in my case they come on FAST!

I was once out of town in a tiny town in the mountains and I got hit by one of these. The bad thing is that it was Thanksgiving and nothing was open.

I couldn't reach the doctor so I finally caved and went to the emergency room of their teeny hospital. They wrote and filled a perscription and oh, what a relief! I would have gone insane if something wasn't done so I feel for you!

Usually it'll take about 24 hours for complete relief.

One of my infections was so bad a few years back (that one hit on an airplane - how fun that was!) that it infected my kidneys as well. I was on 1,000 mg of Cipro a day and I remember it working pretty fast.

Not trying to get too personal, but I can usually tell when I'm going to get one and heed it off by taking cranberry fruit extract in a pill form. And there is another way to heed them off too and some of the women on here will probably know what I'm referring to, but I can't post it on here. Let's just say they don't call it Honeymoon Cystitis for nothing. One little trick will keep them at bay if this is what's causing them.

I hope you get to feeling better soon! I know how horrible they are!

Isn't this always the case? Not only can these hit in no time flat, but it's always at the worst time.

A looong time ago, my sister was telling me she had one. I'd never had one in my life and just thought they sounded horrible. Then that night - I swear this really happened - I woke up with strange cramps, like I'd never had before. I went to the restroom and yep! I had one too. I've always thought that was so strange. It was like she passed it on to me over the phone!

I have already taken 1000 mg of cipro. No relief yet. I have warned DD#2 that I may not be at the church pageant tonight and Daddy may have to videotape it for me. This would suck but I cannot imagine sitting through a 35 minute pageant. Right now I'm timing myself and willing myself to stay out of the bathroom for 20 minutes.
I am going to try to call DH in his car to pick me up some uristat, but I still don't know if I can make church.

Good luck with that! I was doing good to stay out of the bathroom for 20 seconds! The urge to go is overwhelming. It reminds me of labor when they tell you not to push.

It's going to take some time for the meds to start their magic. Hang in there! :grouphug:

The Uristat usually works pretty fast. I am usually feeling much better within an hour. Depending on what time the pageant is and what time you can take the meds you might have a chance. :) I hope you feel better real soon! :)

Just wanted to post that I made it through church although I didn't stay for the punch and cookies....I'm a lot better now with the meds; still uncomfortable but not running to the potty every few minutes. Thanks for all of the support. I haven't had one of these in a while and WOW I don't want one again anytime soon!

I don't have any suggestions for you, but I wanted to wish you well! I know how frustrating UTI's/Bladder/Kidney infections can be, the pain and discomfort is unbelievable. Hope you feel better soon.

The way I look at it, is once you're free of the potty, you're home free! Glad to hear that you're on the road to wellness!
