HI all,

Need some opinions - thinking of staying at Port Orleans Riverside in a preferred room or Port Orleans French Quarter - River View room. We have stayed at PO-Riverside before in Royal Rooms and enjoyed the resort, so was thinking try French Quarter for a change, but not sure I like the hardwood floors. Tough decision here - what does everyone think?

Thanks - Tom

POR is our personal favourite of the two resorts. Plus, the preferred rooms in the AB area are convenient and are located in a lovely area. That said...

We have stayed in and enjoyed both. In your situation, I would try POFQ if you haven't stayed there yet (but we really like trying different resorts). We prefer carpets to the hardwood floors, but not enough to influence where we choose to stay. POFQ is smaller and only has one bus stop, which appeals to many people. You never know - you may find a new favourite!

Enjoy!

I'm in the same boat. I prefer the carpeting as well, and I do want to try FQ on our next trip in August, but we ALWAYS enjoy our stay at Riverside!

When Riverside is completely refurbed it will have the laminate floors too, some AB rooms already have them. FQ is a fav of ours, and I think trying something new is fun.

My wife and I have stayed at and enjoyed both. If we had a preference, we'd pick FQ over POR, since we prefer the aesthetics and the more quaint vibe. Also, my wife is horrible with directions, so the different building colors at FQ worked out better than the standard white colored POR buildings. She literally got lost every time she tried getting back to the room LOL.

We ve stayed at both many many times. POR preferred would be my choice. We recently returned from Pofq and it ll be our last stay. This last visit just finalized that decision for us.
The food court has always been the biggest downer for us. It’s food offerings are too limited, it’s soooo absolutely the slowest service... every single visit, the grab and go offerings are abysmal. We miss the option of the restaurant as well. And again, the worst overall service.
I actually prefer pofq size but that’s a non issue imho when you stay POR preferred.
Wherever you choose, enjoy!

I have three rooms booked at POR for July 4th week and I keep flip flopping on whether I should try and change to POFQ. So I feel your pain. :thumbsup2 . There's things I like about both and I have stayed in both. Decisions, decisions....

Having stayed at both, I much prefer POFQ. The smaller walking distance to everything is the deciding factor. I also give a small nod to the scenery (the streets).

But you can't really go wrong with either.

We like fq much more than riverside. It’s so much smaller and the overall theme is much quainter.

We walked over to POR last night from POFQ. The more I stay at POFQ, the more I prefer it over POR. You can be close to the pool, transportation and foodcourt in a standard room at POFQ. Everything at POR is just so far from everything else

In 2013 we stayed at POFQ and loved it - except the food court - nothing to write home about, except the bignets. This time we are trying Riverside and when I called to ask for a room closest to the food court the other day, I got a $400 discount for being a Florida resident annual pass holder.

I'd go with POFQ building #6. 3 minutes to POFQ public areas - 8 minutes to POR public areas.

Buses less crowded, resort less crowded, - but hey, if you want a bit of POR ambiance - its a very, very short walk. FQ Buildings 5, 6, 7 put you as close to POR main areas as Alligator Bayou buildings 34,35, or 36.

We like building 7 of POFQ. The smallness and one bus stop. But in building 7 an easy walk to POR for dinner or the pool.

We have stayed at FQ twice. While I have no real experience with Riverside (other than once taking a walk through) I never have any problem recommending POFQ. It’s quaint and mosty very quiet. I would wonder how noticeable the air horns on the boats in the river are if your in a river view room. They always seem to be beeping one the way in and out. I understand the food court limitations, but I’ve always been able to fine something and have been happy with it. I don’t think you could go wrong with either.

I’ve stayed in both (POR 3 times, twice in Mansions, once in AB) (4times in FQ). Just did 2017 and 2018 in CBR. My next trip will be back to FQ as I love the theming and smaller feel of the resort.

Just stayed at POFQ for a week. We had a top floor king room with a river view. You could hear the horns of the boat but it didn’t bother us at all.
We enjoyed the pasta at the food court and didn’t have much of a wait. Really enjoyed it.

I’ve stayed in both and personally preferred POFQ. I liked the theming and that it was smaller - I got lost/turned around a few times staying at POR. We generally rent a car and drive so the buses aren’t a huge factor for me, but the room we had at Riverside was the last stop on the loop so we ran into a lot of waiting for an additional bus/standing room only. That said - we really enjoyed both!

We have stayed in both and both are really nice. FQ, as you know, is easier to get around. The food court was renovated a few years ago and it is really good. When we stay at Riverside, we love walking the grounds as well as loving the Royal Rooms. I think you will win whichever your choice. Have a great trip!
