Hi All,

I need a little help. Me, DH, DD's 2 & 4 are headed there in Jan, it's our 1st trip at the GF. We have a GV room and was trying to figure out which building. Am I right about the main building being suites and conceirge only and sugar loaf being only conceirge. We'd like to be close to the main building (monorail, gasprilla's) but also be near the pools. I'm kinda confused about the pools. The maps I've looked at show a courtyard pool/kiddie pool. Isn't that the quiet pool and where is the new/themed pool? On top of all that I'd like to try to pick a building that might get us a nice view? I think I'm being too greedy here! ;)

Thanks!!!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I'll try to help you out. You are correct that the main building and Sugar Loaf only house concierge rooms. When you look at the map, you'll see a building called the Summerhouse. The theme pool is between that building and the beach. Your best bet to be closest to all three areas you mentioned is Big Pine Key. The next closest would be Boca Chica. The garden views that you're going to get from these buildings will be the courtyard pool area. Conch Key and Sago Cay probably have the prettiest views and they're quieter, but a longer walk. Just to put it in perspective though, you're probably not more than a 3 minute walk from the furthest point. The resort is not really that spread out.

Thanks Tammi!

I was hoping you'd respond, I've been reading your posts alot about the GF!! You helped me a whole bunch already!! Just curious, do you have any experience with the high-speed internet access? My DH needs it for his business and wondered how reliable it was? Again, Thanks for your help!

Hi Lisa,

Feel free to e-mail or PM me with any questions that you have. Unfortunately, I don't know about the internet access at the GF. I've been lucky enough not to have to do any work while we're vacationing there. I do believe that they have a business center available, so that might be an option for him.

Tammi

Edited to add: I just saw this on another website

Q. Is high speed Internet access available?

A. Yes. High Speed Internet Access is available in all of our Walt Disney World® Convention Resort guest rooms and suites. High Speed Wireless Internet Access (WiFi) is also available in the Walt Disney World® Convention Resort common areas including the lobbies, convention center hallways and near the main pool areas.

Believe it or not, but I'm pretty sure they even had this inside the cabana's that are located at the theme pool. Now that's doing business in style.

Lisa,

Tammi was of great assistance to me with my plans and requests for my first GF visit - thanks again, Tammi!! :)

One thing that was something I took into consideration was the theme of the rooms. As two adults we did not really want an Alice or Cameo theme, we found it a bit over the top for us, but we really liked the floral theme - so I requested Boca Chica, Garden View even though it was not my first choice for location - wanted a marina view, but gave that up for the floral room theme ( marina is included in the garden view, I was told).

Here's link with lots of photos of room themes. And the first page of the GF FAQs on this site is another great resource. Click on the general resort faq link and then the GF one. Enjoy the planning!! We leave tomorrow :sunny:

We stayed in Sago Cay in the Biscayne Suite for our Honeymoon - LOVED IT! Slept with the balcony doors opened and saw the castle from our bed - can't beat that :)

We always request Sago Cay marina view when we stay at GF GV. It's right next to Gasparilla's and it's very quiet and peaceful. Next time we're staying LV and we're still requesting Sago Cay because we just love the relaxing feeling there. BTW, its me, DH, 2 dds (5 & 7) and DS (4). Your kids will love it there!

Thanks everyone for your replies!! This is one of the fun parts of planning especially when trying a resort for the first time!

Does anyone know any GV rooms that you could see the EWP from? Is the marina as pretty to look as the Poly's?

Also, what does the Swan room decor look like in Sago Cay?

Thanks again, you guys are great!!

Lisa

When I saw photos of the GF marina views I did not think they were as pretty as the Poly's. Check out the photos on www.allearsnet.com and you'll see some GF marina views there.

Also the GF marina seems to be very quiet by all the accounts I've read, much quieter than the Poly view - I LOVE the people watching at the Poly too..and how close the GCH is to the marina...guess You can tell I am a Poly person! Really wanted to try the GF this time - and one thing I do not like about the Poly is that the sinks are inside the bathroom and that has kept me away the last few yrs.

I'll let you know when I get back on Saturday evening. Leave tomorrow for GF and I promise to walk around and check it out through the eyes and heart of a Poly person ;)

If you follow the slide show you'll see photos of Sago Cay views too!

Lisa, you would only see the EWP from some of the lagoon view rooms, not the garden view. Garden view is just that, a view of either the interior courtyard area or with Sago Cay, the monorail. The marina area is quiet, but it's also considered a lagoon view. They store the boats and water mice here. You'd be able to see the marina from the Sago Cay or Conch Key building. If you're facing the marina from Conch Key, you might also have a pretty nice view of the castle.

I see that Christine hasn't started packing for her vacation yet, but she did give you some great links for the pictures.

Ahhh, Tammi!! I'm all packed!!! :) :) :)

All I need to do it put the last minute morning things in the suitcase and tie it up...yep, tie it.... with the all the new rules about locks I use narrow ribbon (it is very tiny) and tie the zipper (what do you clal the end of the zipper??) together. Have traveled over all the US and Europe and no one has ever opened my suitcase for secuity reasons!! Neat!

Soooo, now all I have to do is wait until tomorrow morning ---<sigh> how do I sleep??? Have to be up by 4:30 so will not sleep much anyway. I am so excited about the GF for the first time...this morning I had to force myself to hang up while I was waiting for CRO to come on the line..I was going to upgrade (if available) to a RPC Concierge room...Tammi, I do believe you' re a bad influence on me! ;)

Catch you all on Sunday...home too soon!

Christine,
Have a great trip, I look forward to hearing how you like the GF. I too am a Poly gal, we stayed there for the 1st time in Jan and we all loved it but the Poly does not offer high speed internet which my DH needs for his business. (Dial-up, painfully slow) Since we're now hooked on a monorail resort, it was the GF or the Contempory, and the GF won hands down. SO ENJOY!!

Tammi - Thanks for the info, yet again!
