Our best friends did a vow renewal in June for their 30th anniversary at the Wedding Pavilion. They had a reservation using points for their dad who did not make the trip due to health. They now have 96 points that must be used this year and cannot use them. It is the first time this has happened, they always plan well. Is there something that I can do, as a Disboard member to help them?

Not enough info. Their options depend on where they are in their UY and the status of the points.

Can they just bank them? That would obviously be the best choice if it's available to them.

Or are they past their banking deadline, dealing with points in holding, borrowed points, or reservation points???

If they are borrowed points and they must use them before the end of their use year, about their only option is to rent them out or transfer them to someone who needs extras.

They are not Disboard members. Can they use the board to rent them? Or may I do it for them?

They would have to make a reservation and rent that to someone else. Borrowed points may not be transferred to another member.

Dee - If your friends want to use the DIS Rent/Trade Board to find a renter, they can certainly do so, subject to the rules specified in the Sticky Threads at the top of the forum. Only the actual owner of the points can offer them for rental. They may want to check out Daddio's service to see if he can help - he has an ad at the top of the R/T Board. His service is a relatively easy way for DVC members to get some value from points they cannot use themselves.

I believe they have to register to use the R/T board, and I believe only the owner of the points can list them for rent. I'm sure the "stickies," especially the posting guidelines on the RT board, will clearly spell that out.

As a new member, they're going to run into the "low post count" questions, but there are other venues -- eBay, RedWeek, Tug, etc.

As others have said, they will need to register and offer the points for rental by submitting a Points for Rent thread. They can not be transferred. Also, because we require them to be DISBoard members, and have 50 non-Rent/Trade posts, they can not make a reservation THEN offer that reservation for rental, they would need to offer the points for rental, then make a reservation using those points based upon availability, at the request of a renter. I also would suggest they make at least 10 non-Rent/Trade posts before posting the points so they can activate their PM system.

In this case, I think they are better off using Daddio. They obviously are not too experienced in using their contract, so trying to rent on their own would be pretty difficult.

Since they are not members, they can't use the Rent Forum.

As for knowing their how to use their contract, they, like myself, use it quite well! We just don't know what to do with leftover points, since we NEVER HAVE THEM! LOL.

As I said, their elderly dad had to cancel his trip with them at the last minute, so they are left with points borrowed from next year, to be used this year.

Thanks to everyone for your helpl.

It think the poster who mentioned not understanding the contract was referring to a rental contract. Since this is not something they are used to doing, it might be easier to try and rent out the points via Daddio's service then trying it on their own.
