My DS has to make a family tree - back to GGP's. I remember having so much fun making one when I was his age. Here's the glitch. Both my parent's and DH's divorced later in life. Out of the 4 grandparents, one is single, two are remarried, one is a widow. So how would you show "step" grandparents on a family tree. I'm envisioning a "fork" for each generation (to show the mother and father). Would you then show some sort of line over to the other side of the remarried grandparent to show the new spouse?

I'm probably over analyzing this, but I don't think we should leave them off as they are recognized as "grandparents" too.

Anyone ever dealt with this?

You show the remarriage, by adding it along side the first marriage.

For example grandparents are Bob and Mary.
You show them connected with a horizontal line: Mary --- Bob
If they are divorced you put two slashes through the line: Mary -/-/- Bob
If Bob remarried you put his new wife on the other side: Bob --- Wife

So the whole line would look like this:
Mary -/-/- Bob --- Wife

Children from either marriage are connected with a vertical line (to the horizontal line between the couple) and listed below the couple.

It's a bit hard to show without a picture. Does this make sense?

Thanks! Makes total sense. I didn't know about the "//" for divorce. We just have a lot of names to fit in the "grandparent" generation.
