Hi Everyone!

I need some help and hoping all you experienced travelers and photographers can help.

My mom and I won a trip to Fort Myers to see the Red Sox play. We are flying out Thursday and are taking my Canon Rebel XTi for the first time. I got it in December.

I have a travel Tripod, a gorillapod, and a table top tripod. I also have 3 batteries but only have the kit lense.

My Questions:

1. Where do I pack the tri-pods? (they'd fit in my pilot's bag)
2. Are Tripods allowed as carry ons if they are in a bag?
3. Batteries for the XTi? where do i pack those?
4. Will the camera need to be scanned seperately to protect it or will the machines not damage it?

I found out about the trip only a few days ago and now am in a rush to learn all this!

Thanks in advance!

I do not have any travel advice, but have a good time down here in my town! Well, I am actually across the river, but close enough. :) A bunch of people from my work went to the Sox/Twins game a couple of weeks ago. They are the other in town team. Let me know if you want any advice on other things to do down here or places to eat.

Thanks Kevin,

We aren't sure yet how much time we will have we fly in Thurs games are Fri and Saturday and fly home Sunday!

We can't wait, we may though skip out early at one of the games and explore the area.

We are going to hit up Sonic, and Steak n Shake though for food, we don't have those up here in the New England area so we want to get our fix!

But if i think of any questions i'll PM you for sure!

Any help with the camera questions would be great though so if anyone has suggetions tips, ideas other?

Here are my suggestions:

1. Pack the tripod in your checked luggage. I don't think they would like it in the seating area of the plane. I think that answers question 2 as well.

3. I had no problem with this. For peace of mind, I would leave on ein the camera and put any extras in quart sized plastic bags. One per bag. That should more than make them happy should they ask about them. They MUST be in a carry on bag, not checked luggage.

4. The camera should be fine in your camera bag. The will scan it at security and it will have no problems (no damage to the camera at all). One time I was asked to take it out of the bag and scan it seperately from the rest of my stuff, but that was only once. I have just left it in the bag the other times I flew and had no questions asked.

I hope this helps.

ps. I just missed Spring Training by a week when I was down there last time. If you have a chance (doesn't sound like you will) go to Sanibel Island. It is real nice there!

GO SOX!

Depending on where you are staying, the Sonic across the river in North Ft Myers may be closer. It is less than a year old, so I believe it is the nicer location anyway. They just opened an Arizona Pizza Co. right beside it. Have not been there, but co-workers say it is good. If you like Mexican food, our local place, Iguana Mia, is excellent.

One basic word of advice on the area. Avoid anything north of the mall on US-41 up to the river and anything east of that after dark. That is where all of the drug, prostitution, and violence activity seems to take place. BTW... the stadium is in this not so great area, so if it is a late game, do not stick around too long after dark.

Oh, man, I wish I knew that a few weeks ago! Sounds like a great place to hang and get some nice low light pics! :scared1: :tiptoe:

I would agree about the tripod, you may be able to carry it on but it's more likely that you won't be able to. I was denied carrying on a monopod, which admittedly looks more like a real club than a tripod, but I suspect I'd have been stopped either way.
