we just recently moved from NY to OK, and there are these wierd beetle/bugs in my house. I think they came in with the firewood. they are long and skinny, about an inch in length and can fly. They are black and white striped and have long black antennae. Anyone have any clue what these might be and how I get rid of them? My cats are having fun chasing them when we find one, but I hate bugs!!

That it?

Oh I think so! I really don't want to go look at the one I just crushed - so what is it? Is it harmful?

I just looked it up via the name of the picture - yep - looks like it has come in with the wood!!! Eww.....

THank you for looking that up. I have been searching for "black and white wood beetles" all morning ever since one landed on my bed!

I thought it looked kinda cool!!
Trade you for those ugly waterbugs.....

Well, in Ga we call em waterbugs...
In FL they are called Palmetto bugs

In Ca, we called them big roaches... LOL

Eww! You need to add in the thread title that there is a BIG picture of a bug in this thread. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Being a big, bug scaredy cat myself, I only came to see why does one need to know the name of a bug before squashing it.

It's times like this I'm glad I live in Canada, with the snow and cold. My dd is in Alabama first night she called me hysterical she said there was a huge roach in the hotel, the girl she was with told her to relax as it's "normal" and it's only a waterbug. Then the next day I got a call (they are now driving through Lousianna to Texas) about some large bug in the washroom and she has to kill it before she can go into the bathroom :rotfl: I don't know how she lasted a week there.
