Need help from the HHN fiends out there...

We will be at HRH Oct 11 - 15 and DH and DS12 will be going to HHN, me and DH9 will hang out at the dive in movie DH is so set on going on Friday the 13th. For the two of them to go with Express passes it is $300 - YIKES!!! If they go on BOTH the 11th and 12th (buy frequent fear), with an express pass for one night it is only $280. THEN I thought if they are going for two nights do they need the express pass? Which would then put it down to $220. Am I cheaping out here? (this will probably be a once in a lifetime kind of thing) or does my way make more sense - not just economically but also more fun? Is being there on the 13th really worth it?

We will be there the same time. I just purchased the tickets for the 11th and 12th. We have been to many HHN's over the past few years(8) The crowds on fri and sat are a lot of local kids,it will be crowded,lots of alcohol and even long waits with the express passes.especialy friday the 13th. We love to party and drink and its too much for us.... Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, interestingly enough DH has decided to do the 11th and 12th without express passes told him it was up to him, but I had thought the multiple day thing may sway it. Thanks for the info on the tours, maybe I'll purchase those and surprise him I was going to book the illuminations cruise but never got around to it I would bet that would save the day

My friends and I are going to Universal Oct 11-14th and were in the same situation as you(couldn't believe the prices for HHN). Ultimately, we ended up calling the customer service number and having the "Stay and Scream" option added to each of our tickets for October 12th and then opted to buy Express Passes for each person as well. The grand total was $75 per person for the night....not too bad. Since we will be in the park on Friday the 13th we have decided to play it be ear and decide if we want to buy another "Stay and Scream" pass that day(I know there is a good chance the night will sell out but as I said, we are just going to "play it be ear"). My main priority was getting the tickets and express passes for Thursday......if we get to go on Friday as well, it's just meant to be!

I'm another vote for RIP Tour. We have done it the last 2 years and have wondered how we could have made it through everything without being on the tour. Last year we had a very informative tour guide named Chris and the year before we had another outstanding tour lead by Deanna. It is costly but worth it. Three years ago we did the AP early entry and express passes but the event has grown to unmanagable proportions since then especailly with a 12 year old.

If we go to Islands of Adventure for the day, buy stay and scream tickets and HHN express passes.... is it also worth getting normal express passes for the daytime segment? We are going on halloween night itself. Do the HHN express passes cover many rides as well as the houses?

Well, for one you won't be able to do any of the IOA rides at HHN this year , so it depends on how crowded IOA is during the day on express.

As far as HHN express for the rides, I'm not sure on that one. But just remember, the Universal rides are there 365 days a year, the HHN houses fade into the mists after October 31.

so is it definately at the studios rather than at IOA?

The crowds during the day are usally very light I stay onsite and
the wait between express and regular are about the same, wait times will increase as the day goes on.


We will be attending HHN the 8th....11th...12th , done it this way the past 3 years and never have bought express passes, although the thursday is a peak night(open till 2:00am) and the most crowded. be in the park at closing
(uso) they will put you in a holding area this way you get a headstart on the crowds we have done 2 -3 houses before the crowds roll in .
