My son came home last night with a wad of green gum on his school issued white baseball pants(100% poly). I removed the gum with goo gone but now I'm left with a green/turquoise stain.:headache: I've got it soaking in BIZ right now but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Any suggestions? TIA

have you tried just straight liquid soap and a scrub brush?

My boys stain the heck out of their ball pants, scrubbing with a brush gets most of it out. I have successfully used Tilex on a stained area. (For some reason, it seems more concentrated than bleach. Plus the sprayer gives me a bit of control on where I want to put it--more so than just soaking in bleach, which also eats fabrics. Soaking will get the bleach on the seams, I don't want to eat away at the thread holding the pants together.) It will eat the material though, so it's usually a last resort.

Dawn soap or tide stain release. Scrub with a brush and then make sure it's rinsed out good so you don't end up with a soap stain.

My DS got the worst pair of Baseball pants from his HS this year. They were stained on both knees and poly too. I used the the Clorox Bleach Pen. Just used a little right on the stain and put the pants in the washer with whites. It took more than one treatment but the stains did come out.

Well, I tried Tide Stain release and the dawn/scrub brush treatment. It has faded but it's not gone. Im afraid to try bleach. I used to have one of those bleach pens...I'll have to hunt for it.

Shout Advanced gel has worked wonders on our clothes... especially grease stains. It has even taken out spots that have already gone through the dryer.

this is what I did on poly white uniform pants with Betadine (iodine) stain....

bleach pen, quick toothbrush scrub then place under cold water immediately. I didn't leave the bleach gel on very long... I was afraid it would damage the fabric. It worked first time... you can't see anything not even yellow shadow. Good luck!

my sons play football and the uniform comes with white pants with a black stripe :headache:

Our home field has turf but most away games are on grass. My MIL taught me a trick that's cheap and AMAZING. Take powder Tide and pour a small amount in a plastic container, add just enough bleach to make a paste about the consistancy of elmers glue. use a brush or cloth to rub the mixture on the stain and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then wash in hot water. The pants are polyester so it really doesn't bother the stripe but I wouldn't let them soke in bleach. It really works!

When it comes to items that have some color that could be effected, I put Vaseline on the area that has color and rub it in. I especially rub in the Vaseline around the edges of the color. This will protect the area.

Something I learned on the DIS that has worked for me on whites and tough stains is to saturate the stain with lemon juice. Let it sit for 30 min.. Then saturate the stain with white vinegar and again let it sit for 30 min.. Wash as you would normally afterward. There have been some toughie stains that I had to repeat the process, but it worked!

Good luck! Let us know what worked for you. I'm always filing away tips! :)

I used the bleach pen and it's a little better. I just cut a lemon for dinner so maybe I'll try the lemon juice/vinegar treatment next!

make a paste with powder dish washer detergent and water. then scrub and let soak. the dish washer detergents still have phosphates in them and they do the job better
