I just got a laptop that has a DVD burner. I would love to make a slide show out of the pictures I take on my cruise when I get back so I can play them on the DVD connected to my TV. Do I need special software to make the slide show. Can anybody recommend what software to get?

Thanks!

Hi there!! Geek here!! :bounce:
Sort of geek anyway!

The laptop you bought should have the software already installed. Most major vendors, DELL, SONY, COMPAQ (or is it HP now?) with the dvd burner will have software include. Depending on what you want to so, you may want to visit your local Best Buy or your favorite software store.

If you are doing snapshots for the DVD check to see if you have windows movie maker preloaded on your computer. Its very easy to use and you can put music to it, tell it how long to keep a shot on the screen, all kinds of fun stuff. You have several save options with that program and one is to save it as a movie file. Then you go to whatever software came with the dvdburner and it should walk you through it all.

Have fun!

I use Adobe Photoshop Album to create slideshows that I've burned to CD and DVD.

It's very easy to use. You can set up slideshows with music and with a variety of different layouts and transition effects. It will also accomodate video clips.

The slideshows are saved in a PDF format, so it's really easy to share them since you can view them just using Adobe's free Acrobat reader.

I bought mine at Sam's. It's available at all the computer stores around here for less than $50.00.

(My computer came with utilities for burning CDs and DVDs, but nothing that really facilitated putting photos into an easy to use and share slideshow.)

You can check it out here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopalbum/main.html

Thanks for all your help. After some searching, I found that Windows Movie Maker is preinstalled. I played around with it a little, and it is exactly what I need! This is going to be so awesome! I can't wait for my cruise so I can get some great pictures.

Thanks again!

I work for Apple Computer part time, If you had a Mac, it would be VERY easy, as all new Macs come with software called iMovie, in minutes you can be editing your video, add title, transistions between clips, 2 audio tracks if you want to add music and the models that have a Superdrive (DVD burning) the software on the computer to make your DVD's including chapters markers.

I'm constantly getting customers who come in that own PC's, who wanted to make DVD's with their PC's and cannot, I show them in 5 minutes how easy it is to work with a Mac, they can be up and running and know to to use the program that fast.

Someone I know who bought a Sony Vaio system to make videos of his new baby and gave up after 3 months and came in and bought a Mac .
