We are going to be heading down very soon with another family. The hubby of the other family will be hitting a milestone birthday and the wife would like to get him a cake. She might want to get a cake done at an off-site bakery and have it delivered to our resort. Can anyone that is in the WDW area recommend a few bakeries for her to call? TIA!

While I :lovestruc Publix cakes I am assuming that our friend wants something that can be delivered so that it can be a surprise. I'm not sure she'd be able to sneak away long enough to go pick up a cake.

Bakeries are a bit scarce in Orlando.

I can't think of anything other than Publix.

Having grown up with a neighborhood bakery, this is very said. Our bakery made my sister's wedding cake. And we still go there for birthday cakes and our usual baked goods.

There are times I miss having a neighborhood bakery like I had in Pgh. Then I head to Publix and I am in heaven. :) I don't miss the neighborhood bakery at all then. :)

We used to have several Pgh bakeries that were to die for but Publix is every bit as good.

Now if they only could shave their lunch meat and have a salad bar in Publix I would love it.

I'm a fan of Delish Bakery on FB. Their cakes always looked beautiful.

I just looked at their website and they have Icing Shots! Are you kidding me?!?!? Talk about knowing how to get me to seek them out!!

I suggest using one of the disney bakeries. They're actually really good. Looks like you're staying at AKL - I think they do cakes that your friend could pick up, but if not, you could have a nice cake brought out if you're doing dinner near one of the other bakeries. The GF bakery did our wedding and first 2 anniversary cakes -all really good cake! If you're eating anywhere at the GF and possibly at CR or Poly too, they will serve the cake after your meal. Come to think of it the CR has it's own bakery if I'm not mistaken. The bakery at the boardwalk is also great and I think the same concept applies. On the restaurants board there's a huge cake thread with all the details. I think each of our custom anniversary cakes was $65, but it was enough cake to fee 12 people or more. :lovestruc If they're chocolate fans, I'll humbly suggest chocolate cake, with chocolate ganache and raspberry jam filling. Ours were decorated in lilac fondant with silver leaf mickey head "polkadots", so I think without fondant would be less expensive.

Am not even close to local but ... Sweet by Holly only does cupcakes but they are AMAZING cupcakes. Kicks the butt of any Disney baked good. (Sorry, it does.) They will deliver to Disney and they will create just about anything you want. (They have, roughly, a bazillion flavors, and all of them amazing from what I've tried.) They will taste wonderful. Totally worth it.

I read about them on the boards before our first trip in December 2010. Tried them then and it was a "must-have" for our return trip last September. As good as a I remember.

I have already told my friend to NOT use the AKL bakery. I had an absolutely awful cake from there a couple of years ago. Bad decorations, bad/no taste, etc. I like our travel companions so I must steer her clear of that. :) I follow the Cake Thread but the results seem to be all over the place which is why she might want to go with an off-site place.

Glad you had a good experience though. :goodvibes
