We are now officially Disney junkies after three trips! We can't make down in 2007 due to other holiday plans but we want to go during March Break 2008. I have been reading a lot about renting DVC points. What I need to know is:

1. will I be able to get a studio at Boardwalk during this time of year?
2. is it "safe" to trust the person I may be buying from?
3. how soon do DVC members have their points for 2008?

We would need 55 points for the time period I am looking at. I am a bit nervous about doing this but we have stayed onsite twice and offsite once and we love staying onsite. We enjoy Epcot and MGM so the Boardwalk is an ideal location. We have tried the Pop (too noisy and crowded) and FQ (loved it but it's a bit remote).
Any advice from you experts would be appreciated. I would prefer to rent points from a Canadian if possible so if you can help me out there, it would be great too!
Thanks

Welcome to the cult!

I have been reading a lot about renting DVC points. What I need to know is:

1. will I be able to get a studio at Boardwalk during this time of year?

A member whose home resort is Boardwalk can make reservations there up to 11 months in advance of the intended check out date. In your case, that would be some date in April 2007. A member whose home resort is not Boardwalk can make the reservation 7 months in advance of the intended check out date. Boardwalk is one of the smaller resorts and the second scenario is probably not going to yield positive results, although, I never like to say "never" unless Member Services says so.

2. is it "safe" to trust the person I may be buying from?

Strictly a trust issue. There have been 1000s of successful rentals on this board.

3. how soon do DVC members have their points for 2008?

This question isn't relevant to your rental. I think the answer you are seeking here is above.

Actual offers or solicatations must be done in the rent/trade forum. I can share more with you if you PM me.

I'm sure others will have suggestions for you too. You've made one good decision... you want to go back to Disney!.

I will be one of the owners trying for March break 2008 in April, next month.:woohoo:
Gotta agree with you about POP, I just can't get comfortable in a room that, when you open the door, it hits the bed.:rolleyes1
My home resort is BVW. We just purchased in Nov/06, first trip home Nov/07.
I will be booking a standard view, studio or 1 bedroom not quite sure yet which. :confused3
You can PM me if you want to ask any other details re:renting etc.

If you are nervous, I suggest you ask for references from someone on DIS and it might be easier to rent from a Canadian as well.

There are plenty of us Canadians that rent out extra points.

One thing to remember quite often if a member is committing their points it is a non-refundable transaction. If you cancel, that you are still on the hook unless the member can cancel in time to get the points back and use them another way.
