Thanks to all of the terrific help I got here, we had a GREAT time! We left home about 5pm on Friday under less than ideal circumstances (DD and I were mad at each other!), but we talked on the short drive to the campground and all was fine by the time we arrived. We had found out about a large event happening across the street from our originally planned campground, so we had a last minute change of venue. We ended up at a local commercial campground instead of the State Park we had originally planned.
We were able to have our choice of sites, because it was a slow weekend for camping. We were the only tent campers there! We had a pretty good spot not too close to anyone else. We had some trouble putting up the tent (new one and I didn't practice at home!), but it did go up eventually and we got a fire started for supper. We had foil packets for dinner with chicken and veggies and had foil packet apple crisp (an experiment) for dessert. We were so hungry it tasted great! Nothing got burned. We took a walk and then sat up until about 10pm around the fire just talking. The bugs were not too bad. We burned these incense-like citronella sticks and they seemed to work well.
We slept great and got up and built another fire for bkfst. We had scrambled eggs and "broomstick bears" with butter and cinnamon/sugar and cocoa and coffee. The bears were a bit of a challenge not to burn, but they tasted great. We had discovered, after arriving at the campground, that they have an indoor heated pool, so we made a quick trip home for the swimsuits. On the way back to camp we stopped at the Piscataquoag river to fish. Didn't catch any fish, but DD caught a frog with her hands and it was a pretty place. Then we made a fire again, had hotdogs cooked on a stick for lunch. Then we went swiming for about an hour or so. Then we got dressed and took a long walk around the campgrounds again and took some pictures. After that we had a snack and played cards and talked to the chipmunks who had found our trailmix!! (We of course immediately named them Chip and Dale!) We got the rainfly on the tent because rain was predicted for during the night into the morning. We also packed up any extra items into the car, so that we didn't have to do so much packing in the rain in the morning. Then we made Pie Iron Pizzas for supper. It was a recipe I got from that Chuck Wagon Diner website.... thanks to whoever provided the link. THEY WERE TERRIFIC! Of course, cooking on an open fire, we quickly got used to eating EVERYTHING with a bit of ash on it. We took another walk, read for a while, and then had s'mores. Retired again about 10pm after reading for a bit.
Sunday morning we awoke to overcast skies, but NO RAIN!! So we changed our plans to have hot breakfast (toasted bagels and cocoa) along with our yogurt! We sat around the fire until about 11am (very cool weather all weekend) and then DD wanted to swim again. When we left the pool an hour later it had started to sprinkle. We hurried back to camp to take down the tent and pack everything up. But the sprinkles stopped, so after we had packed up everything except our chairs and food, we built up the fire again for lunch!! DD wanted another chance to do the "hot dog on a stick" thing. Then we each had one more s'more. We stayed at camp until about 2pm. Then we stopped at a local fishing hole on the way home and fished for about 90 minutes. We returned home tired, dirty, and smelly, but we had a great time.
THANKS SO MUCH for everyone's help and support. It really helped.

OH, BTW, DD's quote of the weekend..."Camping without s'mores would be like Walt Disney World without the Magic Kingdom." (So I know I'm doing something right!).........P
