I need a little help finding some comfortable shoes. I am overweight and have horrible feet -- tendonitis in my very low arches, and very bad ankles. Oh, and my feet are very wide. I need something suitable for being on my feet all day, teaching. I plan on wearing dress pants or chinos and blouses -- probably only rarely a dress.

I ordered this pair from Zappos: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/8978778/c/54625.html They are so soft and comfortable! But they don't really give great support, so I can't really use them for every day.

No Crocs! #1, I have Crocs and they don't have enough support for me, even just to go grocery shopping. #2, they're just not professional enough.

I'd really appreciate any tips on what works for you!

I like a brand called Munro - sold at Nordstrom. Not sure if you have a store near you, but they have them on their website. Also Ecco & Joseph Seibel, but their styles are more casual, a bit clunky. The Munro's are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned!

Another vote for Munro's!! They're the only shoes I wear. They come in all widths too!

If you can get away with running shoes, i've found Asics to be the most comfortable shoes EVER! I also have wide feet and lots of times women's shoes give my blisters blisters but asics are oh so comfy!

Keen's :thumbsup2 They have a lot of styles and I read on another board here that those were fabulous for preventing back pain and for walking in the parks. I got a pair of shoes and I love them. The style I got would not be appropriate for work, but they have others.

Dansko clogs are supposed to be wonderful. Many orthepedic doctor recommend them and I notice that a lot of nurses and doctors in the hospital use their white clogs. Their shoes aren't the most beautiful but they have many styles that are professional. I do believe they have a website.

Thank you all for giving me some ideas! Those Munros certainly are pricey, but I'd rather pay more for a pair or two of shoes I can wear all day without being in horrific pain, than to own five pairs that hurt my feet.

Mostly I wear sneakers (Ryka) and sandals (Tevas). When I find a shoe that fits me well and feels good, I'll buy several styles of it. I just haven't had to wear professional shoes in over 10 years since I quit work!

Add my vote. I have a pair of dress shoes (heals) that I can wear all night without my feet hurting. I LOVE these shoes! I also have problems finding comfortable shoes and I could tell the second I put them on that these were wonderful!

Subscribe to the Nordstom website notifications and you will get noticed about their half-yearly sales and their shoe sales. One is coming up soon, usually early August, and you should be able to get the shoes on sale at least.

Thanks, Golfgal, I just did that. :thumbsup2 I see that they're having an anniversary sale right now and they have a couple of styles of the Munros on sale right now. The pair I like is $92. Do you think they would go any lower than that? There are a few styles that I like a lot more and would probably get more use out of.

Probably not. Check out the link to the Nordstrom Rack. That is their clearance outlet, like TJ Maxx type store but just for Nordstrom stuff. They might have some older styles there for less money. The shoes might be a few dollars cheaper on their half-yearly sale but I doubt it. If you have a Nordstrom anywhere you could go to I would recommend that. They actually train their shoe people to help you find the right shoes for your feet. Nordstrom started out as a shoe store and they still pride themselves on their shoe department.

I like Keens. Mostly people talk about Keen sandals, but they make good shoes as well. I particularly love my Keen Bronx.

At this point Merrells are my favorite shoes: they are awesome! You can take a look at www.merrell.com.

Everyone's foot is different. Clarks for some reason just don't do it for my feet. Teva's always hit this tiny bone just below my ankle and kill me.

But I've had great luck with Merrell's lately. You can get them online (and in a lot of stores) for about $70. Several friends had them, but it took me about three years to try a pair, and now I'm sold.

Here's a link:

I find they run very true to size. I can wear them on my tile floors and not have any problems.

I have a pair of the Primo Breeze II clogs and a pair of the Protea sandals.
