My DH lost his job making 50k. He now works at a call center making 10.50 a hour. I babysit because DH and I have 2 children of our own and his daughter from a previous marriage lives with us as well. So thats 3 kids. He can find a job here in San ANtonio. We have tried. We didnt want to move because of my step daughter and her mom. But we might not have a choice. Is there away to make extra money from home? We need help

I am so sorry to hear this and wanted to just wish you and your family the best of luck in your situation.

DO you have ANYTHING that you can sell, like on craigslist, (free to list), people are buying everything now a days to cut back and more and more people are selling!
Also Craigslist has FREE section too, perhaps somethings you can use for your family??
Again, I am so sorry and hope that your future will be EVEN BRIGHTER!!!!

I am sure others will have some idea's!!

I am sorry you are stuggling right now. I applaud you for trying to stay near your stepdaughter.

I am sorry but I cannot help with making money at home. Good luck.

Could you deliver newspapers in the morning or get a job working the opposite shift of your DH? You could walk dogs or pet sit while people are on vacation.

My DH doesnt have to be at work until 9:45AM. So delivering papers could work. Where do you find that type of job? I would have no clue where to start!

As for sellign stuff. Its been sold...lol

Well in my neck of the woods you just call the local paper to find out if there is need - also our paper list there needs in the paper itself.

I know what its like to have your income decreased/ceased

DH worked as a TV repairperson for 15 years for Circuit City - Luckily he was offered a job doing the same thing (although less money) with Best Buy.

I hope everything works out:hug:

In my area there is a distributor for our county who has the rights to several newspapers (including Wallstreet journal), you should do some yellow pages search or ask a neighbor who gets a paper delivered.

You might also check your local Craigslist for employement opportunities or advertise there for a service you can do. I found my part time job last fall on Craigslist, I am working just 3-4 half days a week while my kids are in school. My DH works for GM, need I say more!:scared1:

My teenage DD is learning how to edit photos for an local web based business using photoshop, they will be paying her per photo she edits. Not a ton of money but extra money she can make using her lap top in spare time at home.

My neighbor's son is unemployed and now working for the big US cenus project, she said he gets paid $15 per hour, don't know if that would work for you.

Good luck!!! :goodvibes

My nephew moved from San Antonio because he could not find work, he tried retail, hospitals, a bunch of other places and nothing!

I was also going to suggest looking on Craigslist or even stocking magazines or handing out food samples at supermarkets. I'm just not sure where to apply for this type of work.

You didn't say how old your children are so I am only assuming they are school age. During the school year, you could always check into substituting. I know our schools are always looking for subs. The schedules are flexible as you are offered jobs on a day to day basis. You could also check into being a teacher's assistant. It would be a little more steady income. Contact your local school board office for information.

My children are 1,3, and my step daughter is 9. I cant "work at a job" as daycare for 2 children is a night mare! I do babysit. I just dont want to run a factory out of my home....lol

So maybe the early morning newspaper thing would be a good one for you guys.

I once knew someone who did ironing for a neighbor to earn some cash. Seriously check Craigslist for ideas!

I always see ads for carriers in the classifieds of that particular newspaper and they list the towns/areas they need carriers for. HTH.

I started doing mystery shopping last month and it brings in a little extra. I made $90 last month which isn't enough to pay the mortgage but it's $90 more than I had... :goodvibes I work full-time out of the house so I do "shops" that I can do on my lunch hour or later at night when DH is home with the boys.

It's pretty easy but it does require you to go to stores and often times you have to go by yourself so you'd need to either go when your DH can watch the little ones or find someone to mind them for an hour. You pick and choose your assignments, visit the store/restaurant/etc., fill out an online questionnaire and scan in your receipts. They pay once a month and it costs nothing to sign up.

Good luck!!

It is not a lot, but I make between $25 and $45 every month by doing clicking on sites that pay for your participation. I spend about a half hour every day. I do not buy anything or do anything that needs a credit card. There is a rewards board on the dis that can give you info on how to get started. If you want I can PM you a list of the sites that I have found reliable.

Hello from a fellow San Antonioan! :)

Take a look at workplacelikehome.com and wahm.com Both are good starting points for work at home moms. If you can do phone work I know there is info on both on work at home jobs taking inbound customer service/sales calls.

Good luck!

What about getting a part time job working when DH is home to look after the kids. When I had small kids I worked the night shift for the IRS doing data entry while he worked day shift....not the best arrangement but it worked for us and it was only till kiddies were both in middle school.

There are tons of convenience stores, retail stores and fast food stores around I bet you could find something that would give you some income till things turned around for you.

My husband works for a parts supplier for auto makers, he will be out of work soon, the company has filed bankrupcy and is sending all their manufacturing to Mexico. He'll be finished in a matter of weeks....There is noone that is going to take my house away from us for no reason. I work full time but If I have to I will stock shelves or flip burgers to keep my home and some normalcy in our lives. This just isn't going to break us we will survive this.

Did I also mention I have 2 kids in college too!

I am sorry for your troubles. :grouphug: I know there are some factories that open at night like whole foods where the packing gets done at night and ship to the stores by the morning. I don't remember the hours I think it is 8pm til 3am the hours where good for my friend. She puts the little ones to bed and heads of to work while someone is there just to make sure everything goes ok.

Hope it helps

I work a part time second job at Hastings (entertainment store..books, music, video, plus rentals and trends). You may be able to find something at a retail store like that for an evening shift or weekends. I have been there 8 years (used to be full time and department manager) and have worked myself into strictly being in charge of magazines, so I can come and go as I please as long as the job gets done. I can also pick up shifts and am trained as a barista if need be. Very flexible. You may check out stores like Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc., and see what you can get. Hastings is based in Amarillo and has 155 stores, but don't know if there's any in San Antonio. Anyway..really like the company and the work.
Best of luck.

:grouphug:to you!

Sorry you are going through this. It's tough times for a lot of people right now. Are you good with animals? If so, you could put up flyers for dogsitting, housesitting in your neighborhood.

Also, you might want to check out Angel Food Ministries to help your food budget go a little further. They are in many areas and look like a good deal. You don't have to meet any requirements to use this service.

Hoping for better times for you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear that you guys are feeling the crunch right now. Things are tough. We live in Michigan where it's really bad. About a year ago, my DH got hurt at work and his job changed from a nice well-paying full-time job to a crappy part-time job. My kids aren't in school yet, so I needed to find something to do to bring in some cash.

I signed up with Lia Sophia doing in-home jewelry parties. I do 1-2 parties a week and it brings in good cash. I'm now making more doing this than my husband makes. It brings in a good $1000+ a month or more, it's fun, and I get a bunch of jewelry for free.

Have you thought about checking out something like this? I can give you more info if you want to message me.

Even if it doesn't appeal to you, what about some of the other home party companies (Pampered Chef, Tastefully simple, Partylite etc....)

I know a lot of people who do these and make good money. Right now in this economy, every little bit helps :-)

I hope you can find something that works for you :flower3:
