Hi Everyone, we are currently booked on the Fantasy Jan 2 to Eastern Caribbean. I have just found out that our oldest DD is pregnant and she is due Jan 11, 2016. We were going to drive down from Toronto and drive back. I know this is cutting it close to making it back so that I can be at the hospital, so I think we have decided to either go on an earlier cruise or postpone it to almost Nov 2016. We haven't told our youngest kids about the cruise yet, so no feelings will be hurt there.

I need help deciding if we should try to catch an earlier cruise (not sure if there are any deals out there) or postponing it to a cruise later next year. I don't know if there are any cancellation/change fees to do this. I have inquired with our TA and just waiting for their response.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,

Kristi

I think you need to do one if those actions, go far earlier or postpone to later 2016.

Just because she's due on the 11th doesn't mean she'll deliver on the 11th. I think you need to switch your dates, either earlier or later. You should be able to do so without penalty. The only issue might be if you are booked concierge. If you are, you need to make it clear you are just changing the dates, not cancelling as the deposit for concierge bookings is non-refundable.

Babies can come 1 week before or after the due date. Changing your cruise date would be a better bet if you would like to be around during her labour. Congrats on the soon coming new bundle of joy!

If you were to cruise earlier, the holiday cruises are really pricey because they're popular, so I wouldn't look for a deal there. November 2016 would make for a long wait(!) but the driving weather should be more cooperative.

Congrats on the new grand baby.

I'll echo others. Babies have the ability to surprise you. Some may want to make them selves known at 34 weeks, others, especially first babies, often run 41-42 weeks. If you want to be there for the birthing experience then you need to shift your dates. I recommend later rather than earlier.

My mom had a trip to China booked over a year in advance. Then I got pregnant and had a baby. My daughter was already a couple months old when she traveled, but my mom still said she would have rather been gone while I was pregnant than when DD was so young. I'd suggest moving to November if you can.

Thanks everyone! I will talk to DH and see if he wants to go this year or wait until next year.
