Last year we had to put our dog to sleep :sad1: He was just a mixed breed, shepherd/lab mix. He was a great dog and we miss him very much, especially my DH who was very close to him.

We have been talking for the past 6 months or so about getting another dog. We live in a townhouse, we have a fenced yard, but it is not hugh.

My DH was talking about a Pug for a while, but after some investigation, we found that Pug's shed a lot. Our other dog shed a lot also, that was the one thing about him that really bothered me. Anyway, I don't want to get another dog that sheds a great deal. I realize that all dogs shed some, but Pugs apparently shed more than normal, and I don't want to end up resenting the dog due to all the hair.

So anyway, recently we've been thinking about Boston Terrier's. Does anyone have one, can you pass any info on about them.

If you want a dog with very little shedding -- have you considered an Italian Greyhound?

I don't know much about Boston terriers, but I did quite a lot of checking before we got our puppy (now 13 weeks... and cute as can be!)

Poodles and poodle mixes don't shed, and are very good for people with allergies, as are Bichon Frises.

Be sure to check www.petfinder.com when you start looking. Our full bred beagle was a rescue dog. The 13 week old is a mix, but also a rescue dog.

Plus if you rescue one I hear they are great apt. dogs. :)

I have a Boston Terrier!!! He just turned 1 June 17!! He's a great dog and we love him. He gets along great w/ the kids. He's very gentle when playing with them. The only thing about him is that he is very active/hyper. He needs alot of play time (running around) to burn off alot of energy. He's very playful! He's just about potty trained. Took us almost a whole year! He'll get excited every now and then and have an accident. But he is very smart. He knows how to sit, stay, and speak on command. If you ask him "do you want a snack" he knows what you are talking about and runs right to it. Can even ask him if he wants to go outside and he'll let you know. Very smart dog!

Bichon Frise dogs:
The bichon frise is a small, friendly, affectionate dog of Mediterranean ancestry. Related to the Maltese and the poodle, the bichon frise is often recommended for people with mild allergies because its curly coat infrequently sheds. (If you have allergies, speak with your doctor before making a decision to buy any pet.) This breed has recently become even more popular after winning the 2001 Westminster Dog Show and 2001 AKC/Eukanuba American Dog Classic.

When we were looking for a puppy we also wanted a Pug. Actually, my DH wanted a Pug and I wanted a Boston Terrier. We also found out that the Pugs shed a lot, and we also found out that my husband is allergic to them. Boston Terriers are very similar to the Pugs, they also have short hair, are not the best for people with allergies, and also shed.

We ended up with a Westie/Schnauzer mix, but we were seriously considering a Bichon Frise, or any type of poodle mix, as they shed less and are better for people with allergies. We found out that longer haired dogs are usually better for allergy sufferers.

We have a Cairn Terrier and he doesn't shed. They are the Toto dog from Wizard of OZ. We have had Cairn's for ever because I like that they are small dogs with a big dog attitude. My brother just got a pug and it is so cute it's about 10 weeks old. I didn't know that they shed... I would hate that.

Good Luck and Keep us posted!!!!

My only recommendation is to do a lot of research and please if you can, make it a rescue.

can I plug mutts? The family dog is a mutt and a total sweetie(we rescued him as well)

Definately get a long haired or wire haired dog for non-shedding - a breed that requires grooming. I grew up with a Boston Terrier and really wanted one, but needed a non-shedding dog due to our allergies and asthma. We got a miniature schnauzer and love her.

I'm all for getting a mutt or a rescue, but it's very hard to get a non-shedder. We tried for a year before getting our dog from a breeder.
