I had originally wanted to stay at POR in one of the royal rooms with my mom and my daughter (age 3 at the time of our trip) …this was perfect theming for my little princess and she would LOVE all the details in the rooms. however, I mentioned the trip to my boyfriend and I'm starting to second guess my choice in rooms. if he decided to come with us, i would definitely want our own room. i know the AOA had family suites, but honestly, how comfortable would that be for my mom and small child? i looked into the resorts with 2 bedroom options and the prices almost gave me a heart attack! soooo, with that being said, i need help. i don't know all the odd and ends of each resort, so i don't know which hotels would be accommodating for us. I'm on a bit of a budget but its not super tight, i just know seeing those rooms with $700-$1300 a night for a 2 or even 1 bedroom suite is ridiculous! (in my opinion) especially since we will be spending most of our time in the parks and using the room for sleeping and one day of a "downtime" day before we head home. any advice on what to do? i really would prefer for us to stay in one room, which is why i was leaning towards AOA and getting a family suite, so we would have a room within a room, so to speak. i just wasn't sure if having my mom and daughter bunk together on the pullout couch or the murphy bed would be comfortable for them (they're used to sharing beds often, so my mom wouldn't mind sharing a bed with her) TIA for any ideas i may have been over looking! :)

Maybe you should try either staying off site (They have awesome timeshare rental units that you can get 2 bedroom condo for 1/2 the price of anything Disney, lol) or you could try and see about reserving 2 rooms possibly adjoining at 1 of the value resorts. I am not sure which resorts have adjoining rooms though so you would need to look into that, but also on a side note they can't guarantee adjoining rooms. You can request them but they are not a guarantee. I think your best bet if you are looking for a Disney suite would be AoA...it might be a tad uncomfortable sleeping wise, but I think it is totally doable. Besides how much time are you really going to be spending in the resort anyways lol. You could also look into possibly renting DVC points, but I have never rented points so not sure how that works and how much cheaper it would be for you. Anyways good luck in your search!

Every resort has adjoining rooms, because all adjoining means is "next to each other." I believe you mean CONNECTING if you want a door between them.

Yeah that's what I meant! Sorry not up on the lingo lol...I thought that made the most sense to the OP but like I said before Disney doesn't guarantee the connecting door so it's sort of like a 50/50 shot

AoA suite sounds like your best choice since connecting rooms are never a sure thing and you wouldn't want the Disney vacation you planned for your daughter to become two separate experiences, one for grandmother and grandchild and one for boyfriend and girlfriend.

First, I hope you are looking at some kind of discount. If not available now, one will be sooner or later but two connecting rooms so you can still have your preferred resort. Also, look into renting points with DVC. I know it's not your resort of choice, but a 1 bedroom at AKL might be within your budget. Master bedroom for you and DB and sleeper sofa (very comfy) for DM and sleeper chair for DD3. Laundry and full kitchen in room.

we've tried offsite before and HATED it! the disney transportation is well worth the extra money! haha plus just staying onsite, gives the trip that extra "magic" feel! I thought about maybe the connecting rooms, but not sure if my mom would want that, it wouldn't feel like a "family" setting that way, if we had the suites we'd be together but have our privacy. i thought AOA would be best too, even though it might not be the bed of choice, we wont be spending a ton of time in the rooms and honestly at the end of the day, we're so tired, any bed will do! hahah

thats another thing, IF we did the connecting rooms, and its not guaranteed, it'd be super disappointed if we'd end up on a different hall or something, i'd want us to be together.

exactly, I'd rather us be able to wake up in the same room and be together at night before bed and if she needed me, she could easily get to me. she loves sleeping with her Grammy, but sometimes when we travel, she wants to get in my bed, which wouldn't be an issue for me and my boyfriend but i know he'd rather us have our own space and not be sleeping around my mother haha and the AOA is definitely more in our budget when we start looking at suites...i just worry about the comfort of my mom in the fold out beds, shes not tall, so i dont worry about her feet hanging off, but more so if the beds are comfy enough.

Yup. That's one of the reasons they started building the Family Suites. Twice, with 2 adults and 5 kids, we've been nowhere near each other. Not how we envisioned our trip going. If we ever have that situation again, Family Suite for sure.

You could go on Allears and look at resort Fact Sheets. They also have pictures of the rooms. Another option is two adjoining rooms. Hope this helps.

wow, i didn't know they had laundry in the room, that makes a huge difference. i dont have a resort of choice at this point, just whatever will house us and give me and the DB the privacy we need as well as my mother and my child a comfortable place to sleep, i worry about the pullouts at AOA not being comfortable for them. I cant really see the discounts yet, because we arent going until April next year, so I cant see the prices for that time of year, but basing off of the current rates...wow! hahah how will i know about discounts?

Exactly, it would break my heart if we ended up nowhere near each other, the trip is for my little one and we want to experience everything with her and not miss a moment! which is why i was looking into the suites.

I would count on 20% and hope for more. You may have to switch hotels if yours is not included in the discount, so have a back up plan. DVC I would rent points (see DVC thread) vs booking through disneeyworld.com. AKL would give him his privacy and the sofa beds are better at deluxe. Go to YouTube and you can watch room tours.

All Star Music has 2 room suites. About the same cost as 2 value rooms, but you are guaranteed they connect/door between, and they are in a 'preferred' location - so, closer walk to food court and bus. Theming at AoA is wonderful, but just thought I'd let you know another option.

A 1BR DVC unit would also have your mother and child on sofabed-pullouts. A 1BR does not get them a "real bed" either. Be aware of that.

I was also going to mention the All Star Music suites. I'm assuming they will be cheaper than the AOA suites since it is an older hotel. I know a family who stays in an All Star Music suite every time they go and they love it. It's worth a shot to look into it.

If you want to look into renting DVC points, check out David's Vacation Club Rentals. They are very reputable. If the cost is close to a value suite, I would go AKL since it is a deluxe resort.

Good luck!

David's Vacation Club Rentals...is that a Disney property rentals? Is there a website? I've never dabbled in renting DVC points so I'm not exactly sure how all that works, but several people on here has suggested that option.

Yes, they rent Disney Vacation Club Villas. You basically rent points from DVC members who are not going to use their timeshare and sell their points. David's charges a point fee but you will still pay less than if you booked a Villa directly through Disney. They are a reputable company and I have used them once before. The website is www.dvcrequest.com. If I remember correctly you do have to pay in full up front and I don't believe you can get your money back if you cancel so just be sure of your dates if you do decide to go that route.

If you want to get some ideas on the pricing, click on "cost calculator" on the left hand side of the main page on the website. Choose some dates you are thinking about and pricing will be listed for all the available Villas. AKL is usually the cheapest.
