need help CT/NYers

We have to drive to NY, we are leaving Boston Friday am. Our destination is just under 5 hours drive. We are free Friday night and need to get a hotel and be close to our destination for arrival at 10am Saturday. We want to do soemthing fun Friday night so we need ideas please. The routes we will be near are NY-17 W toward Binghamton is closest or I-84 W passing through Hartford CT to NY. Any ideas of a fun place to go around those areas? We do like good Rock bands and outdoor areas for having a drink, any venues or restaurants like that worth stopping at? Any hotel suggestions?

Milford downtown green area has a lot of nice clubs on the harbor. Stonebridge, Southport Brewing, Archie Mores and more. Saturday is the Oyster Fest so the place should be hopping. Plenty of cheep chain hotels in Milford. With no traffic you should be able to make it into the city in an hour or so. I'll be just off the green at Mustang Sally's Saloon/Cafe 765 Boston Post Rd Milford Ct 06460 from 9:00 to 1:00 for my wife's birthday. Her Brother's band was playing. My pal from Tampa is in town so at some point I too may make it to the green are.
