Need help creating BUDGET friendly UGLY Men's Christmas Sweater

I have 10 days to make one!

My senior son informed me they are having UGLY Christmas sweater day. I am not super crafty but know lots of you are. Thought we'd start a Salvation Army or Goodwill and find CHEAP sweater.

What can I do cheaply to embellish a sweater so it looks Christmasy without being too 'feminine'.

Find some cheap embellished Christmas stockings. Cut the back of and sew it on the sweater. Add some jingle bells and maybe some golf cording on the shoulder. Done.

You could get some felt scraps, cut out whatever shapes, glue on goggle eyes etc. then sew or fabric glue it to the sweater

I got a shirt for my dh, from walmart that looks like santa's coat and it says "does this shirt make me look fat" I was able to sew a string of battery powered lights on to a sweatshirt and added garland to make a wreath(I got the prize for uglyist sweater) You could hang real candy canes by making simple loops all over a sweatshirt.Or maybe print an iron on of the grinch.

Went to Salvation Army and scored a red Tommy Hilfiger sweater for $3. It was on the Mens Boutique rack!
Had the wider ribbing on it.

Went to the dollar store and found 6 snowflake ornaments for $1 and a Santa head made of garland (on wire) for $1 and a strand of bells.
I had to glue the Santa head in place and then sew down with dental floss (it is not super heavy but wanted to make sure it stayed). Put bells in middle of snowflakes and put around Santa (covered the Hilfiger logo with one). Just tacked down with hot glue and now I have to go and sew each one on by hand.

On the back at Hobby Lobby I found a tree pick that had 3 snowmen heads on it (wooden). Took those off the picks, too another pack of snowflakes and cut one into thirds and mounted snowmen head on 2 points of the snowflakes across the top of the back. Then scattered the remaining 5 on the back (took decorative tops off the bells and put into middle of the snowflakes on back.) Need to sew those down too.


So for under $10 I have a very tack Christmas sweater my high school son loves! Still have work to do---the snowflakes have 6 points each and I have 11 total flakes to sew down and then those on the snowmen (am taking each down at the point so the snowflake stays secure). Using dental floss to do this since it is heavy and clear thread didn't work.

This! I did this last year, and it worked really well. I got the stocking at the dollar store.
