Hi,

I wanted to plan a family dinner at the CR and my first choice was Chef Mickeys but they have NO ps's left for dinner during our trip. The CG seems a bit expensive for a family of 4. The only other choice is the Concourse Steakhouse. I don't think I've read anything about it on this board. Has anyone been there? How was the food and atmosphere? Will the kiddies be bummed walking by Chef Mickeys and going here?
thanks for your help!

We like the Concourse, but if you are looking for Chef Mickey's - the kids will definitely know they aren't there - you can see and hear it from the entrance.

Many people have reported great success in going over early without priority seating - I believe that they start seating around 5 pm. You could always make a backup PS at either Concourse, or take the boat from the CR to Whispering Canyon at the WL, always a fun place for the kids, but no characters. Then go to Chef Mickey's - see if they can work you in - if not, use the later PS for the other restaurant. If yes - cancel the other PS!

Good Luck!

I went to the Contemporary Steakhouse for lunch a couple years ago, and it was... fine. :) Not really memorable in any way, good OR bad. It is, however, literally right next to Chef Mickey's, and your kids might be bummed - IIRC, you can even see in through the entryway to the place where Mickey takes pics with guests in his chef's costume. You didn't say how old your kids are, but in general even setting the cost aside, the California Grill is a fairly grown up place. Dinner is excellent but takes a long time, there isn't any entertainment for the munchkins (except for maybe the view if they're into that), etc.

Does it have to be the Contemporary? Maybe your kids would enjoy the hula-hoop and coconut-race contests at 'Ohana (Polynesian Resort). Or if you can take the din of the ginormous organ, the character buffet at 1900 Park Fair (Grand Floridian Resort)?

Thanks for your suggestions and input. I wanted to visit each MK resort for dinner during our stay so I could get a feel for the resorts and choose where we will stay on our next trip. I have PS's at Ohanas, 1900 Park Fare and WC - I'm just missing the contemporary. We are not going until mid June and I didn't realize how far in advance I had to book Chef Mickeys. I don't think I'll go to the Steakhouse - when the kids see Mickey and friends next door it will be an ugly scene. Maybe during nap time I'll steal away and walk around the CR. thanks again!

amjl,
Keep calling because PS's often open up due to cancellations.

Good luck!!!!

There are better options than the Concourse, although the food is not bad it is definately just average. For the same $ there are so many other choices. Of course this is just my opinion. As others have said, you can always try a walkin. We took my niece a few years back and had a ps our 1st night, well she just loved it, and of course we could not get another PS for the entire week, well we took our chances, arrived at 5:30 and were seated in 5mins. Anything is possible. Good Luck.
