Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your thoughts. We are former long-time DVC owners who sold both our contracts, BCV & VWL, a few years ago, to buy a house with some land so my DH could do some hobby farming. Hoping to buy resale in the near future. We've been renting points as well as staying mods for the last several years.

My sister asked to do another girls' trip in May. Last one we did was four years ago. It will be myself, my sister, my bff, and possibly my daughter. Our ages are 55, 60, & 70, and youngest, my daughter, 31. Us older girls are all in pretty good shape for our ages, still active, although there are a few knee & back issues, lol.

Our main goal is relaxation, and mostly trips to Epcot & AK. My sister's idea of heaven is to lay by the pool with a drink, lol! When I rented the points for this upcoming trip, because it was so last minute, none of my fav resorts had rooms available. Of course, SSR did, lol. I do like this resort very much, but it's not my fav for several reasons. Anyway, I had no idea that there were now preferred & standard rooms, so I was not prepared for the request. I said I'd do the preferred, because for a $100 extra it was worth it to me, if it got me a room closer to Artist's Palette & the store. We're not renting a car, so won't have that convenience, and we're staying in a studio, so not much room for snacks, etc, for four women. We're also not doing the dining plan, and plan on doing mostly counter service this trip. We want it to be stress free, so not a lot of planning involved. We're going to wing it. None of us care if we go on SDMT, or Frozen, lol.

Anyway, sorry so long. What is important to me is room location. I want to be close to a bus stop, a pool, and the Carriage House. I've stayed at SSR several times in the past, once in The Carousel section, which was way too far out, once at the THV, and the last two times at The Paddock, which I chose, and I really liked. I was able to get a room on the ground level, near the pool and the bus stop. It was perfect! So now I see the preferred rooms are in The Springs & Congress Park, and I'm at a loss as to what to request.

I'm leaning toward Congress Park, as High Rock Spring Pool doesn't thrill me. Looks too crowded & noisy, and just not relaxing. Plus, the idea of having to walk across the street to get to the pool doesn't seem appealing to me either. What do you all think? How far of a walk is it, realistically, to the Carriage House from Congress Park, which building would you request in either The Springs or CP, and why?

CP is maybe a 15 min walk to CH depending on which building, it's also 15 min to DS over the new bridge/dock.

This doesn't really answer your question, but we usually choose the Grandstand section. It has a nice pool, hot tub area, it it a short walk over to the main building and restaurants and there is a bridge over to DS. It is also the 1st bus stop so you always get a seat and you're the 1st off when you come back from the parks.

I was thinking that section looked good, and I also really liked where we stayed in the Paddock, but our reservation is for a preferred room, which I paid extra for. I'm thinking of not requesting a preferred location when I do online check-in, and chalking the loss up to inexperience, but am wondering if that will cause an issue with the room assigner. Does anyone know if the areas are given as a choice when doing online check-in on MDE?

DH and I really like the pool and location at Congress Park. It has always been our request. If I was doing a Gals Stay at SSR, it would be my request.

Take a park bus if the walk to the Carriage House if the walk is too long.

My last Gals Stay was in May... ages 63 to 70...oh yes, one 45. Enjoy yours!

If you want to be near Artists Palette and the store, your choice should probably be Springs.

Doesn't matter what you request or don't request here; you booked preferred, so preferred you will be assigned. You will be in CP or Springs.

There are advantages to both. At the Springs, you will be closer to the store and restaurant and the pool is not a problem being across the street. At Congress Park, you will be closer to Disney Springs if you want to walk over there for dinner. Since you want a no plan vacation, just go with whatever they give you. You will be in a preferred section since you paid for it. You would have to change your reservation to get out of it, don't. Both sections are nice.

Enjoy

I'd go for the main Congress Park request - view of DTD. :) You can always catch a bus over to the Carriage house if it's too far to walk. For us it's a 10 minute walk at most though. But my BIL thought it was very, very far the one time they were in that section. He wasn't big into walking.
