I am not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I hope someone here can help me? We are scheduled for our first WDW trip on 6-4-08 / 6-9-08 at BWV. I have recently agreed to purchase 197 points for two seperate reservations @ 11.00 point at this resort. I am just new to this points system & all is finally set up w/reservations w/points seller. I am only concerned about forking over $$$ thru paypal to someone I do not know? How do I know the resort is reserved for our families, & I do not get scammed 7 ruin our very planned vacation. Is there protection for us if this turns out to be a scam? Any help is appreciated. Thank You:confused:

Well, the time to ask these questions would have been before you jumped the owner through all the hoops of making your reservations. Trust is critical in DVC rental transactions, and one of the things the owner trusts the renter with is that they will not waste the owner's time, effort, and points.

You should start by reading the "stickies" at the top of the Rent/Trade Board, especially the FAQ and "A Word to the Wise" which are now embedded in one of the longer stickies. Those will give you most of the basics.

I'd also recommend that you read this thread: DVC Rental Point Primer, which will also give you a lot of basic information that you don't currently have.

Incidentally, your terminology is incorrect. The transaction you are involved in is a one-time rental transaction.

You're not "buying" anything. Buying a resale contract is when you purchase 35-50 years worth of points through a real estate broker.

There is a big difference in these two types of transactions, and that may cause minimal responses to your thread.

Please read the sticky at the top of the Rent/Trade forum and this thread:

You are not "buying points" that would be actually buying into DVC, what you are doing is known as "renting points".

We did this last year and it went great, although not knowing did drive me a little nutty. Just make sure you know what you are doing before signing/paying for anything.

There is a certain amount of risk involve in "renting points". You need to do some checks on the person you are renting from before sending any money. Please read: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1669863
