Need Help 1st time Renting One way

We are considering renting a car to drive to Florida and then flying back home. When I started looking into it I noticed $400 to $500 drop charges for returning the vehicle to a different location than where we picked it up. Today my husband was messing around and found a one way rental on Alamo for $200 total. We called in to make the reservation and the agent informed us that this was the total price for the one way rental and that there were approx. $58 in fees associated with our ressie. Is this right or will there be some sort of add on for a drop charge once we go to pick the car up. I was not asked to leave a credit card and could not prepay. I'm just worried about showing up to rent the car and my total being more like $700 instead of $200. Any help would be great!!!

We have rented one way a few times before. Some companies have large fees for a one way rental and others have none. We have rented one way from alamo before. The amount on the reservation is the amount we paid with no additional fees. I am currently holding an Avis and a Hertz one way in May that show no fees. Dollar usually has a huge one way fee.

I have a one way rental from Disney to Indiana for 4\9\-4\12. They had a special for $10 per day and I was also able to use an coupon so after taxes and fees my total was...$13.75! I called Alamo to make sure my reservation would be honored and she said yes!

The $10 daily one-way rates are posted every year for a limited time in the spring. Several car rental agencies do this, but I've most often seen Alamo and National. They are repositioning their fleet from Florida (peak season winter) to other areas around the country for summer (peak season). So if you rent from Florida and drive the car up north you get a phenominal cheap rate.

They do the reverse for a limited time in the fall. If your travel dates fall into the promotion dates it's a cheap way to travel!

National is running a special if you pick up the car in Florida and drive it home any where in the Continental US, it's $10 / day; i had a 16 day rental for under $200.

So i'd say fly down and drive back if you can! Go to the Specials to Go area on the national site.
