Need guidance--re: using incentive points

I requested a reservation using a combination of 2007 points and incentive points and I am a little confused.

Thank you for contacting Member Services. Joe's message is correct. Your
Incentive Points can not be used to make the requested reservation at
this time. The Incentive Points can only be used to confirm a
reservation 7 months or less from the check-out date at the end of the
stay requested. please resubmit your request after November 22, 2007.

Do I need to make two separate reservations -- one using the 2007 points and another using the incentive points? I didn't think the "7 months from the departure date" would apply since some of the points are banked 2007 points. I don't know if this makes sense (or maybe I don't fully understand the process) but why wouldn't they apply the incentive points first and then the banked 2007 points?

They will. You do have to tell them to, though. But you cannot use incentive points until 7 months from the date of check out. So if your check out is June 22nd, you cannot use the incentive points for that reservation until Nov. 22nd. Even if it is for your home resort.

Example: We are going in May of 08 and October of 08. I used some of my incentive points for part of our May reservation, since it is only 6 months from now. I have 46 incentive points left, from our AKV add on.

This morning, I called to start a day by day reservation for October of 08 at AKV. They used my AKV points, NOT my incentive points. Since it is 11 months out, I cannot use those incentive points for this reservation.

So I am saving them as an excuse to drag DH down for a couple nights in a studio sometime before next Nov.

ADDED: I think I see what you mean here.

If you are trying to do one that is partially within 7 months and partially not....like for June 16-23rd at your home resort, I think in order for them to take the incentive points, you would have to do 2 reservations, or do a partial and then call back and request the remainder, KWIM? Tomorrow book the 16th to the 21st, with the incentive points, then call friday and tack on the last day or two with the 07 points or vice versa.

So is it more trouble to book one reservation with a check out date within the 7 month window using the incentive points and then book another reservation checking in on that same day with the other points or just let it go and book the whole thing after 11/22?

Personally, since 11/22 is 2 days from now, I would probably let it go and call first thing Friday morning, unless I was trying to book at a smaller resort.

Or I would do something like...call tomorrow, book the first part of the stay and use up all the incentive points. Then call 2 hours later and use my 07 points for the rest if I was booking at my home resort. Then link em! But again, that would be only if I was worried I would not get the room.

If you currently have an existing ressie. YOu can call up and have them at seven months out swap your current ressie to use developer points. I did it and they did not have to cancel my room or anything so I did not chance loosing my existing ressie. Just tell them you want to reallocate your points that is all........

Fantastic. Thank you so much for this information. I made a reservation using our regular points for our June AKV trip a few months ago and was hoping to be able to swap it for our developer points at the 7 month window.

Not to hijack the thread, but another question with that scenario. Our UY is April and we just bought in September. After I swap the ressie to use our DP, is it too late to bank our 2007 points for 2008?

To answer my own question. I called MS today and switched my reservation from my regular points to my Incentive Points.
They are going to bank my regular points after making the switch.
Perfect!
