I need a great idea for a birthday gift for my husband. We don't usually get big gifts, but I want to do something more than just a shirt and tie. Two years ago I got him a flight experience at the local airport for his 40th. DH is very hard to shop for. He doesn't follow sports or hunt or fish. He likes technology, but he has all the big stuff. He plays racquetball and goes to the gym. I just can't seem to think of anything creative. Any ideas?:confused3

Not sure about most men, but the best gifts given are behind closed doors. I think he would agree. Do something........ not ordinary

Need more info - what does he like? Do?

Did he like the flying experience thing? There's tons of that stuff. I like those as gifts. I got a friend a trapeze lesson, stunt lesson...

There are other similar things - tour a winery, backstage tour of a theatre, concert tickets... Does he like beer? Home brewing kit?

Is there stuff from his childhood he doesn't have but would like to have again? An Atari system (ebay is your friend), a toy you know he loved, his favourite tv show from when he was a kid on DVD to watch with your kids?

how about a surprise weekend away? whether it's just you and him, or you all as a family.

Thank you for the replies so far. Someone asked for more info so here goes. He works in an office (School System Supervisor). He likes Presidential trivia and politics, reading, James Bond, working in the yard, travel, and spending time with the family.
We have some local Presidential historical sites so I'm leaning toward planning a trip to see those.

Not sure where you live but you might consider giving him a radio-control airplane. My husband builds and flies them but now there are many ready-to-fly planes that you don't have to stick-build.

Good info -

Does he like souvenier type stuff? There's one pack of presidential m&ms on ebay atm. They're a famous thing (like people who go to the WH for whatever try to snag a box), they're at the White House or on Air Force One, little boxes of m&ms with the Presidential Seal and a (printed) signature of whatever president is in office at the time.

Here's a link to the listing.

Also on ebay other interesting little things that people into politics and presidential things might like like this listing for a backstage pass from the last DNC convention. There are passes from other conventions of both parties available - I just picked the top listing for convention pass.

Also places you can buy campaign posters, pins, etc., from past elections. This book of presidential campaign poster art comes out in May. I think the trip to the historical site is a great idea, just adding in stuff goes with that can be had for reasonable.

I dunno what you want to spend but you can get a signed Ian Fleming for a couple hundred bucks from a number of sources. First editions are a couple of grand. You could do like, the entire set of Bond books or movies or whatnot.

Again if he likes interesting collectible little things or desk stuff, if you search 'James Bond prop' on ebay, you'll find a wealth of things from replica Bond rings and gadgets to things used in the actual movies (lot of poker chips, heh), to etc. Also a number of versions of Bond's watches available from different films, ranging in price from a couple hundred to a $25k Rolex.

Anything? :)

Awesome ideas! Thank you!:worship:

I also was going to say ipad.. DH got one for christmas and loves it! And it frees up our laptop for me to use.

Otherwise, tickets to an event for you both? Whatever he likes, sport event, maybe a broadway show, etc.

My DH is a big movie and music fan, but we don't share taste in either, so he likes receiving ITune cards and movie passes to use on tunes and flicks he likes.

Disclaimer: He works away from home more or less 8 months a year, so he doesn't have to feel guilty about going by himself to see the action movies that I don't care for. Also, he gets senior rates, so he really gets bang for his buck on a $50 movie card.
