Need good family seafood recommendations for Hatteras Island!

We're headed for Hatteras on Friday and
DFIL will want a few stellar fish meals. Me too!
The kind where you get the local catch with
oiled paper on the tables and pop in plastic
glasses. Or-whatever you can recommend.
I don't want to drive around and pick a
place by sight. I want to drive right to the
best places!

On Hatteras Island your choices are very limited...not too many restaurants down there. Where on the island are you staying?

We'll be in Rodanthe. We can get to Roanoke Island
from there pretty easily so they say. It's our first trip
to the Outer Banks. We're very low key. Should
we plan on driving to Avon or even Hatteras for
dinner?

My sister lives in Frisco (down towards Buxton...where the lighthouse is) and has a gift shop in Avon called Home Port Gifts...look her up while you are there and she can give you "the inside scoop"! I don't know of any rest. in Rodanthe but my sister knows better. Your best bets are Axon, Buxton and Hatteras village although Hatteras village will be a 30 min drive minimum. "The Froggy Dog" is a fun place in Avon. A really family oriented rest. in Buxton is just past Lighthouse View Motel, on the left and for the life of me I can't remember the name right now. It sounds like what you are looking for. There are no "fancy" rest. down that far on the island....all very low key and family oriented. You need nothing but shorts and tshirts...leave the dressy stuff at home! The Pilot House rest. is a little past the one I was just telling you about and it is on the right side of the road all the way down a dirt road on the water...beautiful view! Back in Avon is the "Sea Robin"....I know the chef...very creative and his food is mega yummy!!! Hope this helps some. Don't be mislead by the looks of the rest. on the outside. This is a true beach area...wind blown, natural, low kwy...and full of excellent, fresh off the boat seafood!! Hatteras Harbor Marina is a fun place to be in the afternoon when the fishing boats come in. The seafood gets no fresher than this!!! Have fun!!!

Thanks Dream! I'll visit your sister's shop
and give her a little business. DMIL is a
compulsive shopper and hey-we all need
souvenirs! We're not taking any fancy
clothes-shorts and Tshirts, long pants for
the beach in the evening. It's been a long
time since I was on the east/beach coast.

Mimi...make sure that you tell my sister that you are one of my "dis friends"....she is used to you guys! I have sent several disers to her this summer and she thinks that dis folks are the best!! I tend to agree!! Your family will love her shop! I know I am a little biased but her's is one of the very nicest on Hatteras Island. She has lots of "kid's stuff" too...she has the influence of my 2 and her grandson to make sure that kids stuff is the coolest!!
