Need gift Ideas for 14 yo Boy

HI guys,
I have an unusual situation and need some suggestions. We are in a group at church that is sponsoring this missionary family for Christmas. DH and I are doing the gifts for their 14 yo son. They listen only to Christian music which is fine and we got some suggestions from our youth pastor based on the groups the dad said he likes. We are also getting him drum sticks as he plays the drums and a CD with drum tracks on it to learn. They really didn't ask for much and we would like to do more than this but have no idea what to get for a 14 yo boy. No Ipods or things like that as they live way out in a village in Papua New Guinnea and have no phones, computer access etc.

So, get creative and share your ideas with me. What on earth would you get this boy?

Some kind of sports shirt...an american football shirt or an english soccer shirt?
Something like that?

Clothes and sturdy shoes, if you could find the sizes. Sounds boring but I think kids like getting clothes from USA...

hmmmm. tough one. I got all my 14 year old guy friends music stuff. Uh drumsticks, bass strings. so thats pretty much all I can come up with. does he play anything other than drums? maybe guitar strings if he plays that?

I like the clothes idea but they didn't send sizes other than sizes for socks and they don't get to their email very often. He wears pretty big shoes so maybe I will just go with a large shirt and hope for the best!

Maybe some sport books, or magazines about sports. My teenager still likes Madlibs and things like that as well.

My DS 14 wears a size 10 sneaker and a size XL in shirts (he likes them big!) I don't know if that helps.

Besides the Christian music, you might also consider Mark Lowrey. If you aren't familiar with him, he does Christian comedy, and is very, very funny (especially his older stuff). I know of a lot of teenagers who have enjoyed him (including my own). You can get get him on CD or on video/DVD.

I would go with an XL shirt as they like them big! What about Guiness book for world records? My ds13 likes that. Also likes drawing books, sketch pads, drawing supplies. Tons of batteries for his cd player?

Unless you know for sure that he likes sports, I would be very very careful about jerseys, hats etc. It's not like he can see games or root for teams from where he is. And if he did, you really don't know who he roots for.

I would go for more general stuff: games, art supplies, maybe a football. Something he can share with the other people there - I'm sure even day to day stuff would be different for a lot of those folks to see.

Maybe some models? Science kits? Toiletries - my sons love Old Spice stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions! They definitely give me a place to start. My oldest is 9 so I was really at a loss.
