We are looking for a gift for people who go to their cabin a lot in the summer. We originally thought about a nice hammock but then you kind of have to buy a stand which seem really expensive.

Our price limit is $100-150 and it seems like the hammock stands alone are more than than. Anyone have any other ideas?

Are they coffe drinkers? You could get them a Keurig to keep at the cottage. :)

Or a nice welcome mat with some cute potted flowers. Have you ever visited the cottage? Can you think of anything they'd like to replace or anything they would need that would be convenient, but they wouldn't necessarily buy for themselves?

An iHome, if they have an iPod or maybe a nice radio. Hmmm, I'm trying to think of things we use/want at our cottage.

If they have a fireplace, what about a nice fireplace tools set or a little holder thing for firewood?

How about a nice grill accessories package? Tongs, spatula, cedar chips, cedar planks (for doing fish), platter, etc. My parents have a cottage they go up to all the time, and grilling out is a big activity.

we got my dh judge(he guards everyday) a bear holding a welcome sighn for him to put in his cabin on the porch. Its cute and he put it on the porch as a welcome bear! we paid around 40.00 maybe for it at walmart.

I would think something nice that matches the decor. Maybe a nice wall clock or pillows for the couch. If you've been there and know what small appliances they do and don't have, it might be nice to give them something like a blender or mixer or whatever they need.

You can get a hammock and stand for that price. If you have a Menards near you they have them for $120 or so (stand/hammock combo). We just got a new hammock stand there a couple days ago. I would also look on Overstocks.com for one, they usually have some pretty good deals there.

A couple of very elegant oil lamps - with the nice lamp oils they sell now - for those unavoidable times when the power will ultimately go out.. Also one of those long lighters that people use for fireplaces and such.. There are some very pretty ones out there now..:goodvibes

Definitely different - and definitely useful..:thumbsup2

If the cabin is in a place where bad weather (tornado, flood, hailstorm) happens, maybe a programmable weather radio would be nice. They are about $50. I have one and it give me a lot of peace of mind during storm season, knowing that if something bad is coming the alarm will sound so we can be prepared.

check out cabellas on-line. they have a good selection of hammocks well within your price range. they are also a great resource for gifts suited to a cabin.

I have one from Radio Shack. I love it. We go boating and to a cabin with no TV and comes in handy.:thumbsup2

Have you ever been to their cabin? I would be hesistant to buy a hammock unless you *know* cabin placement/storage.

We have a cabin and often host relatives/friends who bring hostess gifts. The kinds of things that are appreciated most are high-end crafty things (mission style lanterns, a earthenware dish, etc)..... or consumable items like festive paper plates/napkins, etc-- think Crate and Barrel or Restoration Hardware summer lines. The consumables are festive and get used (so are very appreciated).

Another few things we really liked (but could vary by taste):

-a small bench (that we placed inside the door)
-a small, birch framed bulletin/chalk board (placed near the phone for messages)
-wooden and clay serving bowls (because their are always crowds)
-birch picture frames

We've got a lot of the more functional stuff--either we've bought it already or moved it from our regular homes--and have some specific themes/tastes we're developing (mission style, pine cones, traditional adirondack). If you know the cabin, you might play on their themes-- if not, whatever you buy might not get used.

L.L. Bean has some nice "cottage" high end things like hurricane lamps and welcome signs that can be engraved with the family name.

I think you also need to define "cabin". Around here a lot of "cabins" are nicer then their regular homes. They are year round houses that people plan on retiring to and they don't usually have "cabin" themed decor.

No - it is a cabin. They live at their regular house and then go to the cabin on weekends. It is pretty minimal as they are not there all winter long and pretty small so there is no space for anything big on the inside.

I do like the idea of a bench to put outside the door though. If it were just the two adults I would buy something more fancy like a nice lamp or something. But they have kids, and specifically a teenaged boy who is a bit on the hyper side and does not take care of anything. I would hate for something to get broken and have them feel bad about

I saw a really nice engraved wall clock that I thought would be really nice. Thoughts?

Unless you have been there and really know their decor or their preferences I wouldn't buy anything for the "cabin" specifically. I think a gift card to an outdoor store like Cabellas or similar would be more appropriate.

I have been there. It is a typical cabin for here. Just older furniture from their current home and no real decor style. Just kind of anything that makes it look homey. I don't want to do a gift card because to me that seem like I did not put any thought into it.

friends of ours has a summer cabin and they like wood carvings. they got one with the name of there camp on it from someone and thats all they talked about..they sell them at country craft stores . or how about a pair of adirondak chairs for in the yard.and i like the bench idea.
