I just got a new upright freezer and my plan is to cook extra and freeze it for later.

What brand/type containers do you like for the freezer? I have some Tupperware, but they are pricey. Hoping for a budget friendly option that will not ruin food. Thanks!

I like the ziplopc freezer bags. I usually do not double-bag and have found that off-brand bags do not work as well. I have quart and gallon bags and I like to freeze them flat on a cookie sheet. Then when they are solid, I transfer them to a different shelf where I can stack them or stand them all on edge. I use them for liquids too. I have a friend who thinks this is nuts! :confused3 But it saves a ton of space and makes mealtime so much easier. If you freeze liquids, just make sure you defrost it on a plate or it may leak in your fridge.

I wish I could give you a more environimentally-friendly idea, but you're right, tupperware can be expensive and the cheap plastic containers do not work very well.

I like the Ziploc plastic containers. They seal and stack well, which saves a lot of space. I also buy aluminum foil 8-9 inch square pans which are great for casseroles, enchiladas, lasagna and cobblers. You just freeze and cook in the same pan and no extra cleanup :thumbsup2

I agree with the pp about the bags too. I freeze a lot of things in those too. Prefreezing on a cookie sheet keeps items from being stuck together when you want to pull just a little bit out!

I also reuse butter tubs and such. I loved the little yogurt cups with lids for jam and small things but it sems no yogurt actually has a lid anymore, just the stupid foil tops!

I do this too!!! Can get a month's worth of frozen meals on one shelf of my side by side freezer. Works great to freeze flat and stack (sqeeze the air out). Definitely get the Ziplock Freezer bags....I buy them at BJ's quite reasonably. I do double bag, especially for liquids.

Has anyone tried the ziploc back with the little gizmo to suck all the air out? I saw them at a store, but wasn't sure if the extra cost is worth it.

We've tried the Ziploc vacuum bags - my DD tested/compared them for a 4-H project. They worked out great!

For storage containers, I love the Glad ovenware containers. They are black plastic bottoms and clear lids. They can go in the freezer and in the oven. They work out great for a our large family!

I have no idea why I never thought of that. Geez.

I like those Ziploc containers pretty well, too.

To cut down on the costs a little with the freezer bags, I get regular quart size storage bags and put a few of those inside a gallon size freezer bag. In that instance, I do not reuse the storage bags, but I do reuse the freezer bags.
