If you meet the financial criteria (usually a certain percentage of the federal poverty line) you can call the Pro Bono Project in Suffolk.

If you don't qualify for free legal help, you can use the Suffolk County Bar Association's referral service to find a lawyer who will offer you an initial consultation for free or for a modest cost. (Usually around $25.) Of course, if you want to be represented by that lawyer, you will have to retain him or her.
