Need fishing pole shopping help again--Ugly Stik?

I had posted before for help shopping for a fishing pole for my 10yo DS's birthday gift in April and a couple Disers recommended an Ugly Stik. I have an Amazon gift card that I thought I'd go ahead and use, but is this a good price for this:

and is this an appropriate fishing pole for a small almost 11yo? Or is this for younger kids?

1st off, what will he be fishing for and how tall is he.

An 11 year old child should be able to use a 5-6 foot rod fairly easily (my kids are 7 and 9 and they both have rods at least 5 feet). This one is 4'6 so he shouldn't have a problem

The rod you listed would be okay for something like bluegill and maybe small crappie. If he's going to be fishing for anything like bass or at a weight of over 1lb, you really need to have at least 10lb line (this comes with 6lb).

I have fished for most of my life. When I was 11 I had a 2 full 6-6.5 foot rods, one with 10lb line the other with at least 20lb (one for crappie/blue gill/bass, the other for Northern/Muskie fishing)

DS is 4 foot 2 now. I don't know what he'll be fishing for, I don't fish at all and I have no idea what he fishes for when he goes camping (it's with Cub Scouts). It sounds like maybe I should look for something a little bigger so he'll be able to get more use out of it.

I'd stick with an ugly stick or a zebco that comes with at least a 10lb line. With a 10lb line he should be able to fish for most fish and even if he catches into something big he should still be able to deal with it

Okay, thanks again for the tips. I'm going to hold on to the gift certificates for something else and go with one of those with a 10lb line.

Bass Pro Shop is probably going to be the best place to purchase what you are looking for. We were there yesterday and they have one of every kind under the sun. DH recommends a Shakespeare, Ugly Stick, or Zebco with at least a 10lb line. I bought a Shakespeare 5'6 pole with reel and 10lb line yesterday for $14.99.
