I'm very interested in the Panama Canal cruise; HOWEVER, my budget needs a year+ to save up. Will there be more in future? I just see the 2 set cruises this year. Has this Panama Canal cruise been a part of the DCL Interary for some time now? Or is this a new cruise destination? I'm hoping for 2026 for the Christmas Cruise: but do you experts think this won't be available?

DCL has sailed the Panama Canal for over a decade, generally with a westbound cruise in the spring and an eastbound cruise in the fall, although due to the Australian cruises, the pattern is different for 2023. I do not have a crystal ball for future itineraries, but I would be surprised if they stop sailing the PC cruises. Whether they are offered in December remains to be seen.

They do PC once each way each year to reposition a ship, currently the Wonder, to get up and do the summer in Alaska. I can't see them doing PC during the massively busy Holiday Season.

Not this year. The Magic is sailing to the west coast in October and back in December. There is not currently a PC cruise scheduled for 2024.

Part of the reason for the Panama Canal cruises is to reposition ships. As PP noted that used to be westbound in the spring and eastbound in the fall to get a ship on the West Coast/Alaska for the summer. As DCL continues to increase its fleet, there may be less need to reposition ships, as each ship could theoretically have its own 'area' instead of one ship having to cover multiple. That's an oversimplification, yes, but helps to make the point.

All that to say, DCL may not need to do Panama Canal cruises in the future to reposition ships (or may not need to as often). As another PP noted, we've seen that this year since the Wonder is going to Australia instead of coming back to te canal to the East Coast after summer season. Doesn't mean DCL won't still do Panama Canal cruises as they are popular, they just might not be as frequent.

That's all my speculation based on the logic that Panama Canal cruises are technically repositioning cruises. No one knows for sure what DCL will do.

(I've also heard rumors that the Fantasy may do a Panama Canal cruise at some point when the Treasure [allegedly] takes over her itineraries out of Port Canaveral. If the Fantasy every does do a canal cruise I will do whatever I can to be on it, lol.)

I have a mantra that so much about Disney cruising is a formula. That things are fairly constant, without major changes. (Then you hear a lot of pushback.)

….Until there is one.

I think there will be a lot of changes over the next few years, just in itineraries and ports of embarkation. Three new Triton ships added to the 4 Grand Slam ones in service since 2012 = something’s gonna change. (Not even including Global Dream, but I view that as a Disneyland Singapore type situation - not affecting the bulk of N American consumer market).

Until you see the available itineraries for summer and fall 2026, the offer of a PC cruise is an unknown.

The pretty much guaranteed aspect is that you are spot on to keep saving your money for a Disney cruise. I expect them to remain pricey. Whether it is a cruise to PC or you get excited over a different itinerary, best wishes in your vacation endeavor.

Here’s hoping for a future happy sailing! 🚢
