I was hoping some of you experienced eBayers might be able to help me.

I just placed my first bid ever on eBay :bounce:

I bid on a piece of jewlery and was going to use the "maximum bid" service and let eBay do the bidding for me. The latest bid was at $22 and I placed $100 as my maximum bid. The next web page that turned up said that my current bid was $100 and that the current price was $31. So, what does that mean?

Furthermore, eBay says that the reserve has not been met but in the text (underneath the picture of the piece of jewlery) it says that there is no reserve and that the highest bidder will get it at not matter what price.

Now, I´m getting confused.....

If anyone knows what all of this means. Pleaaaaase help!

Thanks

The person that bid before you must have had a maximum bid of $30- that's why it jumped to $31 after you placed your bid of $100. Now if someone else comes in & bids more than $100, the price would jump again. (Am I making sense? ) As far as the reserve price, there should be a link on the auction page to email the seller. Just drop them a note asking them to clarify the amount of reserve, if any. Good luck!

It's just saying your max bid is $100 & the current price it's at is $31. you're ok :)

Also, they must have put a reserve on b/c it wouldn't say "reserve not met" if they hadn't. Get in contact with them and ask them if they really did put a reserve on it.

I'm not an Ebay expert by any stretch of the imagination...but I can answer one of your questions. When it lists the current bid & your price it's just informing you what the price is that you'd pay if the auction was over at that particular time. If you win an auction you'll pay the current bid price as long as it's not over your bid. Does that explain it?

Thanks guys!

This helped clear things up for me. I´ve already been outbid

I´m sure I will try again some time later though.
