Looking for cute but quick craft ideas for 9 yr olds, mostly girls. No food can be involved. Any suggestions on what has worked and what has not?!

Get some cardboard crown part hats, and some plastic jewel, and glitter glue, and have them make princess crowns.

Shrinky dinks are always fun if you have an oven to bake them.

is it for a birthday party or sleepover? give me an idea of the theme and i can give you lots of ideas. Kids are always over my house and i have a whole closet of crafts for them.

I dunno how quick you need this...but my girlfriend and I once spent an afternoon making lip balm in my kitchen.

granted - we were 25 at the time - but we had a blast.

actually bought a kid online...but I'm sure most craft stores will carry them

How about windchimes made from 3 small sized terra cotta planters (very, very, small, very small and small sizes). Attach them together with twine and let the kids paint them. They are actually very cute when they are done.

It's for a birthday party. Theme is Hello Kitty but small craft doesn't have to be related. We invited 33 kids but only 9 have RSVP'ed so I was thinking of something small to take up alittle time.

Don't count on just having 9. I sent out invitations for my DD's 11th birthday party and nobody RSVP'd. Every child that she had invited showed up for the party. A few of the kids told my daughter they were coming but not one parent called. People do not remember how to be courteous sometimes. I had enough for everyone but just barely.

bentley483,

I find it really rude also that people can't pick up the phone or send an email to RSVP. I put my phone # and email address on the invites. I bought enough goody bags for 20 so I think I will be OK if more show. I am really stressed about this.

Craft stores carry those foam sun visors or hard plastic ones for less than a dollar. They sell tubs of various shaped foam cut outs to glue on visors. Get a craft marker to write names (or dimensional paint if you have time to let that dry.) or use glue with glitter. They even have self stick foam cut outs to make it super easy, and super quick. If you don't like the visors, they sell foam door knob hangars, too.

I always put out foam door signs (a la a hotel sign) with lots of foam cut outs (letters, flowers, sea creatures, butterflies, holiday themed stuff), beads and glue. It's an easy craft, one they like to do and can be done with boys or girls.

holy cow, please tell me you don't have 33 kids coming to your house!!!!! That's a party! I'm not familiar with Hello Kitty, so I'm racking my brain for ideas. Plus if you do have a large group it could get messy and expensive. How about felt cat bookmarks? Actually you didn't say you wanted the crafts as a party favor, just something to keep them busy. How about a large banner that they can write birthday wishes on or even a giant card made from poster board? You could also get a blank journal and have each of the kids draw the birthday girl a picture.
If it's outside you could have bubble blowing contests (the biggest, the most, the one last longest, etc.)
